The sun was setting into the horizon as I smoked my last cigarette. The red and orange rays lying lazily across the surrounding area. I puffed out the white smoke and watched it wither away as I watched the sun dip slowly.
"Hey Roxas, Bet you don't know why the sun sets red." He pauses and looks into the horizon. "You see, light is made up of lots of different colors. And out of all those colors, red is the one that travels the farthest."
"Like I asked, Know-it-all!" I laughed at him as I elbowed him.
I looked down to the street below my swinging feet. I smirked and dropped my cigarette to the avenue and pulled out the pack, finding it empty.
We were superheroes then…
"Hey." A voice sounded from behind me. I looked back and smiled at Roxas. He had a pack of cigarettes, my favorites, with a silly smile plastered on his face.
"Hi." I said breathlessly as I got up and faced him. I made a grab for the pack and Roxas disappeared in a wisp of smoke. I smirk to myself and turn to the sun set, Tragic beauty.
"No one would miss me." Roxas yelled back to me before walking away.
"That's not true, I would…" I whispered.
The sun finally dips into the horizon and I pill my red cape off the ground.
"You will always be a superhero, Axel." Mother smiled as she tied the red cape about three feet longer than myself, around my neck.
I watched the streets as the cars drive by and let out a breath of air that I was holding.
"I want to be a superhero…" I whispered to myself. I tie the cape around my neck and look up at the sky.
"I think about the days when we were young and care free. We never even bothered to ask "Who are we" or "Who we should be", we just existed with no resistance…We were superheroes the…"
"But times have changed and wars are raging underneath our skin. We're dodging bullets and holding ground." I sung quietly. An Audience spans out in front of me, all listening. I plucked the strings of the guitar, watching them.
"Pushing, pulling and weighing down. What happened to that cape I used to wear? Is it out there? Is it out there?"
"And if you find it somewhere inside of me, Help me find it because I should be flying. I wanna be a superhero again and finish this war under my skin." I watched a blonde boy walk into the hall and look up at me, smiles.
"Oh but, History has shown us that when times are gettin hard. It's time for us to grow and see exactly who we are. The morning after the storm is always brighter than the rest, Right?"
"Especially when you know you past your test but the tests are only standardized in little public schools."
"Were they've given you all the answers and prepared you with the rules. I don't think life on earth is set up quite the same. It's every man out for himself until we make things change." The blonde boy walks over to a table and sits. He nods his head to the guitar and smiles all to himself.
"Can we make things change?" The blonde boy sings and the audience takes notice.
"So give me one thing."
"Something please." He walked up onto the platform and sat next to me.
"Just a glimmer of hope..."
"I'm on my knees." He smirks.
"Need to know that I'm not That I'm not crazy And if I am then tell me now so I can tie my cape to my straight jacket and bow out 'cause I am not about to go down this way." I sang louder and the audience melts away.
"No not the superhero, Today." I stepped up to the ledge.
"I guess I'm not the superhero, Today." I sung the notes sadly as I dropped out the edge . My cape fluttering behind me, Today. Today, I'm the Superhero…
