Secret of a Fiery Jackal
Chapter 1
Into the World
I am alive.
I can think.
...I can't feel my body.
Where am I?
What is going on?
Ah! I have arms...I can move.
...Legs too.
Can I get up?
Maybe I can find out what this is.
I hoist myself up.
Something shakes behind me.
...a tail too?
It's like a scorpion's tail.
Cool.
I look at myself.
I'm black and I have flames on my body. My feet have claws like smaller versions of the sword-like stinger on my tail. Which has fire burning on the blade. I have powerful legs. I have armor all around me, and, of course, a mask.
But...
What do I look like?
My face I mean.
Mask.
Whatever.
Where am I?
It's dark.
The only reason I can see my body is because of the flames on it-
That's it!
Can I brighten my fire to make light?
I'll only know by trying.
Here we go.
I concentrate and suddenly I can see.
Awesome.
This place looks like an ancient place of worship. Plants grew on walls. All of the old stone is cracked. Basically, it looks pretty awesome.
It is a basic four-wall room, no elevation to the floor unequal to the elevation in other parts of the floor. Everything is flat.
I see something.
A cicular part of the wall about my height has a line separating it from the rest of the wall.
I walk over to it.
It is hard to walk at first, but it gets more natural after a moment of staggering and stumbling.
There is a symbol on the door...but why is it so familiar?
It looks like the Egyption god, Anubis, except he is engulfed in fire.
Kyaa! My head! What...is going on with...this drawing of...a fiery jackal? It's making my head...Ahh!
I see a vision. It's this place when it used to be... new-looking. All of the stone was clean and stable and there were no plants anywhere. Someone who looked like me (except was gold and didn't have any flames) placed a mask in the middle of a circle of ashes and fire. "May the most powerful being lay in wait for the end of the world," he said. The mask glowed.
What was that?
Who was the gold being?
Who is the most powerful being?
The circle in front of me glowed on the edges. Blue words burned themselves onto the stone underneath the fire jackal.
They aren't in my language.
How am I supposed to understand them?
It will probably open the door.
Wait.
I...I can read it now.
But it's still not in my language...
How can I read this?
It doesn't matter now. Right now I just need to open the door.
It reads:
'The flame shall awaken, and the river and land will follow.'
I read it aloud.
The door starts to glow. It starts shaking and crumbles.
I am glad the door is open but...
Did the symbol shatter too?
I would like to keep it with me. It seems special. It triggered that weird vision.
I search in the rubble for it.
Luckily I find it. It's not shattered.
I keep it in my trembling hand.
I step inside the tunnel.
Now...
Time to go outside.
