Prologue- A Stormy Night

The rain was pouring down hard, beating against the windows of the Higurashi family's apartment home.  Every light was off, and the whole family was silent as each laid in their beds, sound asleep.

Save the youngest child.  The lightening flashed for a second and light up every room of the apartment, thunder quickly following it.  Each shudder the thunder caused made the younger boy quiver under his sheets.  He bit his lips, small fangs digging deep into the sensitive skin.

I don't want to be scared, he thought.  But I want 'Kaasan...  Another crack of lightning light the room and in that second of brightness, the young boy saw the outline of a beast on his wall.  It looked ready to strike and ready kill, and all the courage he had been trying to build up ran away.

He bolted out of his bed, running out of the room he was sleeping in and down a dark hall.  Clutching a small, black, stuffed dog to his chest, he pushed the door to his okaasan's room and hurriedly crawled into the large bed in the center of the room.

            "'Kaasan!"

The said woman in the bed groaned but quickly turned over and looked at the small boy on the edge of her bed.  Her midnight black hair hung from a loose pony tail as her brown eyes scanned the bed.  What she saw was her son, clutching his favorite stuff toy to his chest with fear in his eyes.  His pointed, dog-like, brown ears swiveled nervously around his head, lowering when the sound around him was too loud.  She noticed how his jaw-length brown hair was tangled from the young boy's tossing and turning.

"Come here, Shiro-chan," she said lightly, opening her arm to the child.  Shiro did not need another invitation and dived into his okaasan's embrace.  She felt his trembling and rubbed his back while making cooing sounds.

"I don't like storms, 'Kaasan," he stuttered while hiding his face between his okaasan's neck and her pillows.

She smiled to herself.  "I know, my chibi hanyou.  I'm here."  His head bobbed up and down against her chin, and she settled herself down once again to go back to sleep, the rain still pouring.

Don't worry, Kagome thought.  Nothing will happen to you, I'll make sure of that, Shiro.

AN:  Ohhhhhh, who is this child?  Well, I'm not telling.  Yes, this is my first fanfic, but not my first time to right.

Anyhoo, I'm not guaranteeing any dates for when the chapters will come out, just that I'll do it as I wish and however fast I can pump them out of my small complex brain.  I've got some chapters already written up, some partially done, some outlined, and some that I simply don't know what to write.  But I figured if I actually posted something, then I would feel obligated to write and figure out how I want to tell this story that came to me over half a year ago.

Yes, I have a tendency to ramble.  But, anyways, Welcome to my story MAY, and I hope to have a post up within the next two months.  (As you can see, I'm not making a big commitment here.)
