Blink and you're gone

Author's note: Cast yourself back to the March, 1981 and this is what I thought James snr, Lily snr and Sirius would talk about when they discuss Harry. Hope you like it!

"He looks just like you, James," Sirius grins.

"Let's hope he's better behaved when he's older," Lily elbows James in the ribs.

"I can't help it, it's my nature," James smiles.

They all look down at little Harry wrapped up in a red blanket, a mass of het black hair sticking up.

"I do worry about him though, do you think he'll be okay?" Lily asks, tucking Harry in.

"He'll be fine, honest," Sirius smiles at Lily. She grins back.

"Harry will be everything we dreamed of and even more, I know he will," James puts an arm around Lily's shoulder. She leans into him.

"I can't help feeling like his future is already planned out for him," She mumbles.

"Maybe, but you can bet he'll have a good one," James replies, hugging Lily. He shared the same doubts as her. Will his son really be alright?

"Sirius, will you swear to keep an eye on Harry if we... if we don't make it through the war?" Lily's green eyes widened in fear as she gazed into Sirius' brown ones.

"Of course I will. I am his godfather and I promise I will," He smile gently.

Lily flings herself at him.

"Lily, careful!" James grins at his surprised friend. Sirius grins back, bur hugs Lily just the same.

James looks at Harry, who stares straight back. His emerald eyes gleam as he smiles at his dad.

"Harry mate, I know that whatever you do, you'll be amazing," James sighs. He didn't want his son to end up alone. He wanted Harry to always know someone was there for him, even if he didn't realise anyone cared.

"He will. Whether Harry will be a genius like his mum, or a troublesome little monster like hsi dad-"

"Hey!" James butts in.

"He'll still be great," Sirius continues.

"Are we still having dinner with the gang on Friday?" James asks, turning to Lily.

"Yeah, but Peter said he couldn't make it. Important work apparently," Lily says.

"More important than his friends?" Sirius snaps.

"Evidently so," Lily sighs deeply.

"You coming Padfoot?" James turns to him.

"Of course. You can count on me," Sirius beams. "I'll even come early and help you cook, Lily."

"Oh, Sirius!" Lily flings herself in Sirius' direction for the second time.

"Steady on there!" James laughs.

When Lily pulls away blushing, he says:

"You'll be moving in soon."

Sirius grins and checks the clock on the wall.

"Better be off. See you all on Friday." He hugs Lily and James and pats Harry on the head.

"See you little Harry. Keep your parents under control," He whispers.

As Sirius leaves and James and Lily wave him off, Harry yawns in his cot. He didn't know it, but his life was about to change drastically. Sure, Lily worried about him, whether he would be hated by everyone or respected for who he was. Either way, she was right. But one things was for definate, Harry would never disappoint anyone, least of all his godfather, mum and dad.
