A/N: I do not own POTC. I am also a little fuzzy on whether or not the following can happen with mermaids, who are perhaps mythical creatures and therefore probably do not have spirits, but only have bodies and souls.

Syrena looked at Philip, but not critically. Almost inquisitively. "You're different." she observed.

Philip nodded. He was different. He was charged with the Great Commission. To take the Gospel with him and share it with those around him.

"Why are you different?"

"I answer to God, not to men."

"What does God ask of you?" she asked, curious.

"To pray for those around me, to show His love to others, to share His message with the people He places around me."

"What is that message?"

"That God loves you so much that He sacrificed His own Son for your life."

"He would sacrifice a son?"

"His only Son. And that Son, Jesus, was willing to die. To be sacrificed so that mankind would be saved from Hell."

"God does not want me." Syrena shook her head. "I have killed so many. God cannot be willing to save me."

"All you must do is to turn away and tell Him you are sorry for your transgressions; your sins; your mistakes."

"I have been told this tale before. By men that I killed."

"If you believe in your heart that Jesus died for your sins, and was raised from the dead after three days, then you will be forgiven."

"I believe in the God you believe in and Who made you into the man you are. I believe in His Son rescuing me."

"Then no matter what happens to us, know that you'll see me in Heaven forever."

"I believe that, Philip."

"I love you, Syrena. I am glad that you have trusted God."

""I am, too." Syrena smiled, and a single tear of joy dropped onto her cheek. Blackbeard's men captured it, and Syrena looked to Blackbeard. What would he do with them now?

The answer was terrible and came swiftly. Blackbeard forced her to watch as he murdered Philip. Philip looked to her as his last breath left his body. They both knew that he would see her again soon. Syrena knew that the end would come quickly for her. She was tied up, as Blackbeard had sworn, halfway out of the water. As sunrise came, she suddenly felt no pain.

The water, the sunshine that burned, and the dense forest were gone. In their place were comfort, sunlight that warmed gently, and...Philip. He stood by a pair of beautiful gates, waiting for her.

She ran to him, discovering that she could indeed run on two legs. She came to his side, and he embraced her.

"Thank you for the truth." she told him.

"Thank Him for it." he smiled, and gestured to Someone nearby. Syrena turned and came face to face with Jesus Himself.

"Thank You." she bowed before Him. He took her hand and raised her to stand once more.

"I love you, Syrena."

"I love You, too." Syrena smiled.

She turned to Philip. "I love you." she embraced him, knowing that eternity was the best gift that Philip could have brought her to.
