A/N: I thought it would be interesting to do a little ficcie of Éowyn's thoughts on Grìma when he first became Théoden's advisor. I wasn't sure when exactly he did, so I'm saying that this takes place when Éowyn is in her middle-to-late teens. Also, it exaggerates on Grima a little just to show some of the absurdity of "town gossip". Hope you enjoy!!

A New Advisor

I see him sitting next to my uncle, talking to him, and feel strange. For some reason, I do not trust the king's new advisor.

Wilhelm, my uncle's old advisor, passed away several months ago, and this man is his replacement. His name is Grìma, son of Galmod. Though he is a man of Rohan, he is very different from most Rohirrim. His skin is unusually pale compared to our own fair skin, and his jet-black hair vastly contrasted with our typically blonde hair. Also, from the little I know of him, he has a passion for books. He has been here for about a month, and whenever he is not with my uncle, I have often found him reading some books. I have nothing against books, for I love to read, but if I had to choose between reading a book and riding my horse, I would easily choose the latter.

Though he is quite older than me, I have noticed that he occasionally seems nervous when I am around. Sometimes, when we are eating together, I glance over at him and he hastily looks away, as if he had been looking at me. I do not know why he does it, but I still do not know him well.

A few days ago, Éomer came back with his éored and met Grìma for the first time. Éomer said that he doesn't trust Grìma. I have to agree. There is just something about him that is not quite right. I would not accuse someone I barely know of being less than loyal to the king, but I have my suspicions.

There is much gossip about him down in the rest of Edoras, which I have heard from some of the servants. They say that he is an evil man and that he killed Wilhelm so that he could become Théoden's advisor. They say he knows dark magic and can read minds. Also, they say that he is really a servant of Sauron and is going to betray Rohan. I do not believe any of these rumors, but there is something strange about him. Maybe those rumors are not too far from the truth…
