He couldn't tell you why he was here.
All he knew was that things had changed while he was gone, and standing here at Izumi's grave was only a small part of it. It seemed as though everybody had grown up, distanced themselves form the world and it's troubles.
"Time was cruel to both of us." Ed mumbled, sticking a tulip into the fresh dirt surrounding the grave. "Looks like we're both lost to this world now."
"Brother!"
He glanced up. Al was running towards him, his long brown hair flowing behind him. It felt strange, seeing him like this, but not half as strange as it felt being taller than him….and everyone else…
"Why are you up here by yourself? Granny Pinako made you a welcome home feast!"
"Oh…Thanks, Al. I'll be there in a minute."
"Is something wrong?"
Only everything.
"Nah, I'm just going to take a look around, that's all. I won't be long."
"Want me to come with you?"
"No thanks. We'll catch up later."
Al watched as his brother walked off down the hill and glanced up at the sky. Somehow, things didn't seem right.
Ed sighed, pushing his hair out of his face as he wandered down the thin path. Why was it so hard? This was Al, his brother, and this was what they'd worked so hard for. All their pain, all the struggles, had paid off.
So why wasn't he happy?
(I'm not sure whether to make this a one-shot or write a few more chapters... xx)
