Neji is handsome. That's first sentence that you encountered in this fanfic. A rather ambiguous sentence, since Neji is somewhat an in-between person. Get him at the right moment; he's good at you. Get him at a wrong time; make sure to say your prayers. Funny, since right now, we caught him with a rather in-between mood. Rare moment, because he was a kind of a person that didn't want to get caught smiling for someone and he was only in the mood when his team are around. Of course, being Hyuuga, it didn't show.
Bet'cha you'd agree with that Neji is handsome. Because you see, Tenten's partner is…
…
(And by the way, I have held you back long enough right now)
…
…Rock Lee
Yup, you did indeed clean your ears this morning. Freaky-Mr-Big-Eyebrows-and-Eyes-with-that-helmet-haircut-that-looks-a-lot-like-Gai-sensei-who-we-don't-think-is-attractive-at-all-yuck!-Juuussst-Kidding! man is Rock Lee.
And the surprise on their face (by "their" I meant everyone on the table and on the dance floor) was too much to bear.
'I though that Hyuuga prodigy would get her?'
'Yeah. Rock's definitely a big no-no to Tenten'
'But if that's what Ten wants…'
'Oh come on Tenten! You blind or wut?'
'I've heard that Rock Lee paid Tenten to dance with him'
'That CREEP!'
'Yeah, I get it. But, wonder though, I've always found Ten and Neji kinda cute together'
The rumors, whispers and not-worth-it discussions that usually lit up the streets alive 'til night was waking up. And that was something Neji found rather annoying. Perfect for a good excuse since everyone knew how anti-rumor he was.
So he took his glass of water and exited the splendidly-done room out to the patio. A big plus was that the building was situated on top of a hill so it overlooked a beautiful scene, where both the mountains and the seas clashed. A pool was also made available, lights on and all, but the only thing missing were the people themselves.
He breathed out, relieved. No one was there and we all know being alone was something Neji was quite good at.
He wouldn't mind her presence at all though.
"Hyuuga" Someone called out, as if greeting him casually.
He perked up expectantly, in the hope of making what he saw earlier a fluke. But his hopes were soon broken.
"Temari" he greeted, making sure to reply with his usual half-annoyed tone.
The last person he'd expected to see, yet her presence was comforting. They've been in a somewhat good-term acquaintance; the next-best person he can relate with outside the clan.
"Rock Lee beat you to Tenten's first dance?" She asked, standing beside him, but looking at the view, as if avoiding his eyes.
It was a tacit order, or rather… rule, that the first two dances a lady does are for her favorite and her favorite alone. Of course Neji expected the first dance to go to him (almost everyone expected Neji to go with Tenten and of course, as a friend) and he started to plan what he'd say to the brown-haired girl—he refuses to call her Tenten now— to obstruct any moment of awkwardness.
He nodded slightly, taking a sip out of his glass and looking the opposite direction, away from Temari. If that brown-haired girl was to be their topic for the whole discussion, leave him be.
"Well, Ino beat you as well" He said, breaking the deadly silence. He quickly looked at her, a small sly grin on his face. They were so near to each other, you would've thought they'd be more than friends.
Temari chuckled, her pride slightly bruised.
"Well then, I guess we'll settle this right now" Neji said, his grin stuck to his face, his left brow raised up. He bowed slightly, offered her his hand.
The music can be heard up to the patio and they, carefree and gaily, danced their first two dances together.
