The Air Between Us
Sometimes the air between us burns
Golden streams of flame
Shafts of sunlight piercing to my core.
Sometimes every pore in my body, every part of my skin
Is burned by that air
Between us.
Sometimes it's an unbearable feeling
You and I, alone together.
So close and yet forced to stay apart.
It is those times I wonder why we keep this up.
Sometimes the air between us is a comfort.
We are each in our place, weaving our own personal complex world.
We know the rules, we know the game, and we work well.
The air between us keeps us safe, promises-
As long as we keep it there, nothing can hurt us.
We are an invincible team.
Sometimes the air between us charges me.
Like an electric jolt of energy.
The what if's and whispered questions
The unspoken words and unshared parts
The wonder of the possibility makes me dizzy, sometimes giddy.
Of a side of you we may someday share...
When we
Finally
Close the air between us.
