This being my first songfic, I'm going to hope it came out all right. Akako may be a little OOC, and I have no idea how clear this all is, but hopefully it's good enough. This came as a result of me thinking of Akako while practicing "My Immortal" by Evanescence on piano. So I hope you enjoy and leave reviews!
Disclaimer: I do not own Akako or Magic Kaito. "My Immortal" isn't mine either.
Koizumi Akako looked down. The circle was prepared, the incense was lit, her question was in mind, and her youkai servant was there to make sure nothing went wrong. All that was left before she could ask Lucifer for a new way to make Kaitou Kid fall under her charm was to offer up her blood, identifying that it was indeed a witch who had called Him and not a mortal. She held the sharpened knife to her wrist, about to cut into it and give not just her blood, but a piece of her soul, away, when a voice whispered to her, "Why are you doing this? Why are you throwing away your life? Why, Akako-chan?"
Your presence still lingers here
And it won't leave me alone.
The witch shook her head, attempting to dispel the voice. Instead of leaving her, its questions grew louder. "Why? Think, Akako-chan, why do you do this? Do you want to? Is it a need?" Mentally flipping through the pages of all the books she had read, she remembered one that had claimed that most voices asked a person to do something. Once the deed was done, they had departed in almost all cases. She nodded, turning her gaze to her arm, where the hundreds of cuts of the past, the reminders of what she did regularly in hopes of finding Lucifer's help, seemed to darken. Worst were the three cuts on her wrist, the three that had started it all so long ago, when she had deliberately attempted to take her own life. That day, she had been offered the life she now lived, an escape from the pain.
These wounds won't seem to heal
The pain is just too real
There's just so much that time cannot erase.
"Why do you do it? You could have lived a great life, and yet you chose this path of greed and sin?"
"Who are you?" Akako asked the voice, and an image flashed in her head, of a raven-haired little girl, blue eyes glowing with happiness.
"When you cried, I wiped away all of your tears
When you screamed, I'd fight away all of your fears
And I'd held your hand through all of those years…
So why have you abandoned me? Why did you try to turn away from me and accept the false joys of the devil?" A new image appeared before the woman. It was the same girl, but her eyes were now dulled by despair. She sat in what appeared to be an attic, a knife pressed to her wrist. "Then, you are…?"
"You turned away from me, from the happiness you could have had."
"That's impossible!" She cried aloud.
I've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone
But though you're still with me
I've been alone all along?
Tears threatened to break through her eyes, and the youkai drew closer, aware that it would get to draw fear from her and consume her will if just one drop was shed. She blinked them away, sobbing. Looking back to the floor, she sees that she had dropped the knife she was using for her ritual. "Do you want to do this?" Her younger self asked Akako. She began to move the blade towards her arm, before pausing and moving it over to the table where it belonged. "Take down the incense. I'm not going through with it."
"Miss Koizumi—"
"I'm going to be up in my room. Please don't bother me." She said, turning around.
Good? Bad? Awkward? Review? Please?
