The Sun and the Sea

Looking at the west, she can see the bright sun meeting the calm sea as the ends of her black dress robes moving freely as if it was one with the wind. Her swollen eyes just dried up as there were no more tears left to cry after a week-long agony. She always loved the beauty of the sunset but due to the unforeseen recent events, she hated it, she hated sunset. The sun and the sea seems to meet but in reality, they don't. Just like how she had, with him. She took one step, feeling the waves of cold water gushed to her feet. Before the war, she always had visualized how they would end up being with each other, tying the knot and be with all the people they both cherish. One step. Cold water is felt just below the knees. But now, the war had ended, the war was won, many died, but the victory is theirs. All seem to be moving on. Another step. She could feel the water climbing up to her waist. All who lived have gone back to their normal lives and even though they mourn, they still have their families and friends to lean on for comfort. Another step. And then another. She could no longer feel the coldness of the water sipping on her dress robes. She is now numb. While she, she had no one. Her parents are far away, cannot even remember their own child. She had no siblings. Another step. Her parents were too busy doing their job they can't even take good care of their only child, why have another? Another step. Her friends have abandoned her. For them, she was no longer useful now that the war is over. Another step. The water is now in the level of her chin. She was barely breathing. And now, where is he? He is nowhere above the ground. He is gone, forever gone. Another step. Only hair now is above the water. She wants to be gone too. She witnessed how he left and breathe his last breath. But only the sea and the setting sun witnessed how she left and how she stopped breathing.
