This is set in Queen of Shadows, after Chaol got paralysed and Dorian is back to himself again. Basically it's a scene I wish was in the book but I think totally could happened. Enjoy and please favourite/follow/review whatever :) I own nothing I obviously don't.
"It's just so damn hard. I used to be so fit and able, I could run five miles without stopping for breath and now… now I can't even go to the bathroom by myself. What am I supposed to do now? I used to be your Captain," Chaol paused for breath, looking near tears, "I used to protect you, what now? I'm not much good propped up in bed holding a sword. Even if the healers can fix me, it's never going to be the same. It will take months of training and exercise to get back to how I was before and not counting how long it will take for me to make the journey. What will you do without me? Everyone is leaving, even me. Though I wouldn't be much help anyways." Dorian opened his mouth to argue but Chaol ploughed ahead, "No, don't interrupt to tell me you'll be fine and not to worry and everything because I will worry. You're my best friend, Dorian you're pretty much my brother in everything but blood. And I know, normally you would be fine by yourself but this is different. It's a new world. You just became King, your dad is dead and you've finally got that monster out of you. Why on earth are you letting me leave?"
This time Dorian interjected before Chaol could stop him, "We've been over this Chaol, it's better for you to heal fast and come back your old self, then to stay here half the man you used to be."
"I know it's for my own good and I know I have to go, but really?" Chaol looked at Dorian earnestly, "I promise I'll be back at your side as soon as I'm healed and it'll be like old times again… Except it will never be like that again. Not with you as King and Terrasen finally rising, I wish it could all go back to how it was when we were kids. You and me running around these halls, not a care in the world, not knowing about the evil that is ravaging this world.
"I swear, my King, I will be heal quickly and come back to your side. I will try to be the Captain we both remember but… I fear it is not possible."
