"Rachel? Rach?" I hear a voice whisper. I slowly open my eyes and I see Monica stand beside me, covering the phone with one hand, stroking my back with the other.
"Mmmm?" I say and stretch my arms out, yawning.
"It's for you" Monica says and hands over the phone.
I sit up on the couch before answering. "Hello?"
"Hi." A voice on the other side whisper.
My lips curl up into a smile. "Hi." I whisper back.
"Did I wake you?"
"Yes."
"Sorry." I hear a small chuckle.
I lay back down on the couch, pulling the blanket over me.
"That's okay" I whisper. "I had to get up soon anyway."
"Work?"
"No, but I can sense Joey and Chandler coming over any minute now." I chuckle.
He laughs.
"Anyway, how are you?" I look up at the ceiling, playing with my hair.
"I'm okay. Carl told me I could get back home on sunday."
"Good. That's good."
"Yeah. And how are things at home?"
"It's all good. It's getting a bit lonely here without you around, though."
"What about Mon?"
"Well, she's been spending a lot of time over at Richard's lately."
True.
"But I'm fine, Phoebe's coming over later. Gonna have a sleepover, just the two of us."
"That sounds fun."
"Yeah... And tonight, it's actually good that you're not home."
"Really?"
"Yup. Now we can talk about you."
"You don't talk about me when I'm home?" He says.
"You know what I mean!"
Chuckle.
"So... what do you say about me?"
I smile. "How geeky and incredibly sweet you are."
"Yeah?"
"Mm-hm. And how much I love you."
I smile again.
"Yeah?"
"Mm-hm."
"Why's that?"
"Hmm... because you're so cute?"
"Well..."
I can't help but let out a small chuckle.
We stay silent for a while, both listening to each other, breathing.
I yawn. "When's sunday?" I say.
"In three days."
"Three?" I close my eyes. "That's long."
"I''l be there before you know it, sweetie."
"I know..."
Pause.
I yawn again. "I'm sleepy."
"Then you should get back to sleep, honey."
"But I want to hear your voice."
Pause. "You know what? Why don't I call you back later tonight?"
"No." I think. "Would you, please, stay at the phone and just... talk to me?"
"Of course."
I adjust myself under the blanket and I listen to my boyriend talk until I fall asleep, with a smile on my face.
