Once the day is finished and River is returned to Stormcage, the Doctor goes where he truly wants to be. It's an unlikely place: an out-of-the-way village in England. But this is his true home, because it's where she is.
This night he is particularly weary. He steps out of the TARDIS and smiles. The lights of the house shine like a beacon. As he walks through the front door he feels the comforting warmth of the fire that he knows will be blazing in the lounge.
They fold into each other's arms just like always. He has always been amazed by how perfectly they fit each other, even with the baby growing every day.
"Hello, Romana, "he murmurs.
The only reply he gets is a contented mumble, but that's all he needs.
Romana is all he ever needs.
