Bringing the Heat

"How are your eyes?" Jackie asked Nick as they drove home.

Nick had his yearly eye exam and his eyes had been dilated.

"Everything is still all blurry." He responded.

"I hate that feeling." Jackie answered.

She hated having her eyes dilated too, on top of that it gave her a headache.

"Honey did you turn the heat on in here? It's hot." Jackie said as she switched the air conditioning on.

"Baby I don't have to turn the heat on, I'm always hot." He responded with a grin.

Jackie rolled her eyes.

"Do you disagree?" He asked with his grin getting bigger.

"I'm pleading the fifth."

"Alright, you don't have to say anything, the evidence speaks for itself."

"What evidence is that dear?"

"We have 9 children." He answered.

"Who says their yours?" She retorted, flashing a huge grin of her own.

He burst out laughing.

"Good point." He conceded.

She smiled triumphantly.

Jackie pulled into the couple's driveway.

"Alright hold on Nicky, I've got to grab my purse and then I'll come around and help you get out the car."

"I'm alright to do that by myself."

"You can't see." She argued.

"I'll be fine." He insisted.

She shrugged and then grabbed her purse, he was so stubborn.

She had just grabbed her purse and was about to get out of the car when she heard a crash and then a curse.

Her head snapped up.

Nick had rammed his shoulder into the van's mirror.

"I thought you could see?" She asked mockingly as she ran around to help him.

"Apparently I was wrong." He mumbled.

"You are the most stubborn person I know, I told you to wait so I could help you."

He knew she was right so he didn't say anything, instead he grabbed her arm and let her lead him into the house.

She sat him down on the couch.

"Hey Jacks?"

"Yeah?"

"Am I really the most stubborn person you know?" He asked as he grinned at her.

"By far." She replied.

He grinned at her like he was proud of that fact.

She shook her head at him and then went into the kitchen so she could make them both a sandwich.

"Nicky do you want your potato chips in your sandwich or on the side?" She asked as she poked her head back into the living room.

"In the sandwich please."

"Alright."

Within moments Jackie brought in two plates and handed him one.

"Thank you."

"You're welcome."

The couple enjoyed their lunch in the quiet house and a couple hours later Nick was more than happy that his vision returned to normal!

The End!
