Zoids: A New Beginning
Chapter 1: And So It Begins…..
By: Joshua Wickert
All my life, I had wanted to be a Zoid warrior. Maybe it was the fact that my Dad repaired Zoids for a living, or that being a Zoid warrior was as glamorous as being a movie star or the president. But whatever it was, I wanted to be one, and my Dad prepared me for it. He set up a computer in his office that had controls almost like what was in a Zoid cockpit. Needless to say, by the time I was 16, I had mastered the Rev Raptor, Pterras Bomber, and the Command Wolf. When my 17th birthday rolled around, my Dad promised to buy me a Zoid as soon as a few weeks went by and there was enough money in my Zoids account to afford whatever Zoid I wanted. But, two weeks after my birthday, a man came wandering into my Dad's repair shop.
"May I speak with the owner??" he asked me politely. I ran off and got my Dad. It turned out that the man was a former Zoid warrior who had several trashed Zoids he wanted to sell. Now, my Dad was successful in repairing Zoids and had quite a lot of money, so we decided to see what he had. A small Hover Carrier was outside the Repair Shop with about four platforms attached to the back. There was a Cannon Tortoise, a Zaber Fang, a Gun Sniper, and a War Shark, all being towed by the carrier. My Dad seemed quite interested, especially since the man wanted a fee about a third of what a new Zoid cost and wouldn't take any more money than what he wanted. I knew my friend, Carlos, wanted a Zoid also, and so I decided to call him.
"Yo Carlos, it's Josh. There's a guy at the shop selling four Zoids for about a third of what they want for a new one, even though these need some work. You wanna come over and get one???"
I could hear him pause to think, then he asked, "What Zoids does he have???"
"A Cannon Tortoise, a Zaber Fang, a Gun Sniper, and a War Shark," I replied. Then I added, "I'm going for the War Shark."
He replied, "Alright, since it will take me too long to get there from here, see if your Dad will pay for my Gun Sniper, then I'll pay him when I get there."
I finished with, "Okay, see ya in about thirty minutes."
I walked outside and talked to my Dad, and he agreed to pay for the Gun Sniper, as long as Carlos paid him back. So, my Dad handed over the money, and the War Shark and Gun Sniper were unloaded and moved into the garage. I looked over my War Shark, and figured the guy got it from the wreckage of all the Backdraft Group's Whale Kings. Then I remembered that he said his team had used it so it was probably beaten up in battle. I surveyed the battle damage and all it looked like was a few gunshot holes and a lack of good weaponry. Obviously not a Neo War Shark….
Around a half hour after I talked to him, Carlos showed up at the door to the Repair Shop. He came walking in and yelled, "Where's my beauty?"
"Right here," I said as I lead him through the door. He took one look at the Gun Sniper, and his face did a 180-degree turn.
"What is that!?" he yelled, looking pretty angry. "This is what I'm paying for!?" he said, pointing at it.
"Look at mine, Carlos," I responded. "Mine is gonna take some work too, but it will be worth it. Look at it as a chance to have your own customized Zoid for cheap."
He handed my Dad the money, and we both agreed to do our own work on it. He would guide us through, and pay for half of the weapons and parts, but we would have to pay for the rest. A week later, we got to work…..
