Summary: sort of random but I thought that it would happen eventually if it didn't already

The temporary pack of Sesshomaru was growing. Yesterday, the wolf prince, Kouga, and his two betas had joined them I their journey to Naraku's castle. Sesshomaru was not pleased at having the wolves with them.

The others had noticed but kept silent; thinking his dislike for them was similar to Inuyasha's dislike. They were wrong though; Sesshomaru detested them, Kouga especially, because they scared his Rin. It was Sesshomaru's duty to protect what was his, Jaken and Ah-Un as extension, and it pissed him off royally to let the vermin remain.

Sesshomaru was mused from his thoughts by the sound of howling. Everyone looked up at the sound.

"You think its Ayame-nee-chan?" Ginta asked curiously.

Kouga shrugged. "Who cares," he replied. "Kagome is my woman, I shouldn't worry about another."

Inuyasha growled, standing up to retaliate. "Oi! Kagome ain't-!"

Inuyasha paused at a whimper. More howling sounded, louder and closer, and the whimpers became more frantic. The teens and demons turned to the kids, who were sleeping with Kirara and Ah-Un. Run was whimpering in fear and her limbs were moving like she was running, accidently hitting Shippo and waking him up.

"Hey!" Shippo shouted, rubbing his head but his anger dropped at Rin's scared expression.

Before Sesshomaru could do anything, Kouga, who was closest, stood up and began to shake her shoulder.

"Hey kid. Kid! It's just a dream," he said, happening to get in her point of view.

Rin slowly opened her eyes, the first thing they landed on was the wolf and she screamed. Everyone shook with the bloodcurdling fear the sound gave off.

"Sesshomaru-sama!" Rin begged, hiding her face in her arms.

Instantly and instinctually, Sesshomaru reacted. Suddenly, Kouga was crashing into a tree, the inu lord between him and the crying girl he was cradling. Sesshomaru's eyes were blood red as he hissed.

"Don't go near her," he growled, shocking everyone with his protectiveness.

Quietly glaring at them all to ensure they wouldn't attack, Sesshomaru jumped up into the tree above him; sitting on a high branch with Rin in his lap. Rin was sniffling as Sesshomaru gently wiped her tears away, his eyes fading back to gold. The girl buried her face into the mokomoko pelt, greatly calmed by her demon lord's aura and scent.

"You know I'd never let anything hurt you musume*," Sesshomaru said soothingly, running his fingers through her hair.

"Thank you chichi*," Rin mumbled sleepily, falling asleep in his arms.

Sesshomaru smiled gently at her peaceful form. He glanced back down and gave everyone, who were still stunned, an ugly look. The inu demon noticed Ah-Un move closer to the tree her was in, leaving Jaken to himself on the cold ground. While Sesshomaru normally wouldn't care, his instinct were on high so he silently used his mokomoko and lifted Jaken to the tree, letting the tiny imp sleep on his outstretched leg, clutching his pelt.

Sesshomaru leaned back and looked at the moon, reveling in the presences of the ones he protected.

'I guess this Sesshomaru does have something to protect father. Thank you for giving me my family.'

His family.

End. : )

Language Lesson:

*musume - daughter

*chichi – short for meiyo no chichi, which means Honorable Father

That last sentence was random but his dad asking him that question has been on my mind for forever and I wanted to write something.

How was it by the way?
