"Percy! Get back here!" Annabeth ran after Percy, waving a nest of delphinium flowers in her hand. "If I have to wear a flower crown, so do you!"
"No way!" Percy spotted Jason walking toward the cabins and quickly dove behind him for cover.
"Uh, what's going on?" Jason asked. Annabeth caught up to them. She and Percy did this weird dodge and weave dance around Jason.
"Seriously, Annabeth. It's not that I don't love you," Percy said. "It's just that flower crowns really aren't my style."
"You will wear this flower crown if it's the last thing I do." Annabeth said determinedly.
Jason chuckled. "Really?" Jason tried his best to follow Percy with his eyes. "That's what you're running from?"
"Shut up." Percy said.
"All right." Jason put his hands up. "Then I'll just take my leave." He flew straight up giving Annabeth the chance to tackle Percy to the ground. She straddled Percy as she stuck the wreath on his head, her own rose and baby's breath one unravelling into her tangled hair.
"Ow! Not so hard." Percy whined.
"That's what she said!" Jason yelled from above before flying away.
"Well, if you hadn't run off and caused all this trouble, maybe I'd be gentler." Annabeth said. "But for now, deal with it."
Percy sat up with Annabeth sitting in his lap. She patted herself a bit before taking some bobby pins out of her pocket. Percy watched as Annabeth used her teeth to pry them open before sticking them into his hair. He felt them scrape against his scalp as he put his hands on her waist. The aroma from the flowers was intoxicating. The Aphrodite cabin must have been working on a love spell or something because Annabeth never looked more beautiful. Her gray eyes were fierce and determined as she figured out the best way to keep the crown in place. Her hair framed her face as the flowers weaved themselves into it. The sun made her tanned skin glow with a radiance that resembled a goddess's aura. Percy felt like he was falling in love all over again. He didn't notice he was leaning in before Annabeth pushed him back.
"I'm not done," she said.
"Aw, come on. It's Valentine's Day. I heard its bad luck to reject a kiss on Valentine's Day."
"You're making that up."
"No I'm not. I heard it from…Where did I hear that from?" Percy said to himself.
"Okay. I'm done." Annabeth climbed off of him and stood up. She reached down and offered him a hand. He took it but instead of pulling himself up, he pulled her down into his lap again. He wrapped his arms around her, preventing her from moving. He kissed her nose which made her scrunch up her face.
"I hate it when you do that." Annabeth said.
"But you love me so it cancels out." Percy grinned.
"Whatever." Annabeth rolled her eyes before kissing him. Percy had trouble kissing her back because he couldn't stop smiling. She wrapped her arms around his neck as he circled his around her waist.
"O-o-o-kay. That's enough of that!" Gleeson came over with his megaphone in one hand, a bat in the other. "One satyr-length between you at all times!" Percy and Annabeth scrambled apart, afraid of the coach using his bat against them. They stood up and brushed themselves off. They grinned at each other as Gleeson lectured them about how there would be none of that funny business happening on his watch. Once he was satisfied, he walked off with a huff as he swung his bat onto his shoulder and clipped his megaphone to his belt. Annabeth came closer to Percy's side, laughing quietly as the coach's megaphone made random animal noises. Percy grabbed her hand before kissing the side of her cheek. The conch horn sounded, signaling lunch. They walked toward the dining pavilion, swinging their hands together.
