~ To die with a smile
Nobody else could see it.
The audience errupted into chaos when the dictator Lelouch vi Britannia, known under the name Demon King, slid down to end up lying next to his imprisoned sister. They didn't have time to look for the smaller details. They were too busy being happy and overjoyed.
However, they could see it. The prisorners. The leaders of the black knights, the supreme counsel of the united federation of nations. Those who knew Lelouchs true identity. They could all see it, and it bewildred them.
Kallen watched Nunnaly take her brothers hand, and how Lelouch whispered something to her. They could all see how Nunnaly started crying, how she grabbed Lelouch's shirt and begged him not to leave her. Her crying stung in their hearts.
They did not undestand how they could feel sad sad Lelouch. Did they feel sad for Nunnaly? They all hated Lelouch, because of his evil deeds, his evil intentions. But, notherless, Kaguya could feel the tears burn in her eyes as she looked at the still form of her former admiration.
They watched as the final breath left the hated dictator, watched him die.
And then he made his last, surprising move. In the final seconds of his life, Lelouch vi Britannia smiled. Even as his eyes slit close the smile remained.
Nunnaly went into hysterics. The people started cheering. And yet, all the prisorners could do was to look at the gentle smile on their hated enemys face.
He did not look like a defeated man. He looked, Ohgi wondered, like a man who had had his highest wish come true.
And then it happend. On that eventful day, in that exact minute, everything became clear to everyone who knew Lelouch. His old friends, his old knights, his old family. They all understood in a matter of seconds that this was his grand plan. That he had moved the king one last time, and with that move he'd lost the game.
With his death the whole world won. No losers. Only him.
And as he lied there, with that gentle smile and his weeping sister by his side, it did not seem like a big sacrefies.
After all he did manage to leave the world with a smile and the understanding of his sister.
And the smile on his face told everybody that that was exactly everything he had ever hoped for.
The rest of the world never saw the smile. But that really didn't matter.
