Abandoned
x-x-x
Drops of bitter cold rain splash into anonymous puddles on the broken, abandoned streets. Marlene gazes upon the cloudy, grey sky with despair in her eyes as she stands in the middle of the rain shower.
Her light pink dress soaks with water, dripping down her bare legs. Her brown hair is drenched with excess water as a few drops slide down her pale face. She tries hard not to cry tears of sorrow but fails. Invisible tears flow down from her sullen eyes as she froze in the blistering wind.
All she thinks about is Cloud and the promise he made to her and Tifa. She shivers uncontrollably, her body fights against the cold. The silence from the streets engulfs her completely. Her eyes slowly look down at the thin sheet of water that she stands on. The murky sky reflects from it as well as her tear abused face. All the promises that he made with her falls down her shoulders. All the promises that were broken weighs her down. A hand gently touches her shoulder. She looks up and sees Tifa with her head bowed down in grief. Tifa gradually kneels down to Marlene and holds her into a tight hug.
Marlene's arms sway lifelessly by her sides, as if they are paralyzed. Tifa's long black hair flaps in the cutting wind. Tears try to break the barrier that want to hold them back, but she gives in. Blue tears roll down her cheeks, mixing in with the tears falling from the upset sky. Light is gone from the world, their world.
The rain splashes roughly onto them without hesitation. The clouds rumble in the sky, thunder sounds in the far distance. Tifa looks up at the sudden sound of a motor overpowering the loud noiseless rain drops and all of the distractions around them. She squints through the shower of rain and sees a black speck far away from them.
She stands up quietly as a hand hovers above her eyes. Her eyes tell her that she is being deceived from what she sees. The roaring gets louder and more boisterous as the seconds pass by. A stream of light slices through the mass of gray clouds, shining onto whatever it is approaching.
Tifa feels the road beneath her shake and tremble. She holds Marlene's shoulders firmly and brings her closely in front of her, not letting go. The rain ceases to a mild mist as the harsh winds die down. The shabby homes and buildings on both side of her make her feel as if they are moving outwards.
Tifa sets her hazel eyes upon him, his eyes stare back at hers even when it seems like they are miles apart. His black motorcycle swivels to a halt as it leaves tire marks on the cracked asphalt underneath it.
His sadden eyes gaze upon the water streaked road. A soft breeze runs through his blond hair as his blue eyes slowly rises to Tifa's lovely face. She manages a smile and waits for Cloud to approach them after months of isolation and separation. Her smile falters when he stands hopelessly still and doesn't even take one step forward. She looks away from his disappointing gaze.
