Sayu Yagami hated many things. At first, they were the things that most teenagers agreed should not exist. Final exams, evil teachers, stupid friends, calculus, being compared to her perfect student of a brother, that one boy who just won't get a clue… Though these things made her life a bit more stressful, they didn't ruin her day. If she had a problem that was too difficult for her to handle on her own, she could always rely on Light to help her.
Then 'that incident' happened. After she was rescued, Sayu found that she had a newly found hatred for several different things, technically unrelated, but at the same time they all stemmed from one source.
She despised the smell of smoke, her inability to move, the annoying sounds from video games, loud men that handled her in ways she desperately tried to forget, chocolate in any way, shape, or form, and the case that had taken her father away from her.
Sayu had never been that close to her father, but his death destroyed her mother, the only caretaker she had. Her opinion on the matter, though she never told her mother this, was that Sochiro Yagami had left their family several years ago to have a passionate long lasting affair with his job. (Besides, it wasn't as if she could speak coherent sentences anymore.) Her mother firmly believed that he had done all he could to help his family, but hasn't she figured it out yet? Sachiko Yagami had lost everything.
All she had left was Light. Perfect, perfect Light Yagami. The most diligent and intelligent student this world had ever seen. The boy who had scored the highest out of everyone in the entire country on his exams. The one she could never measure up to.
And wasn't Light ever so amazing? He left the Yagami family as soon as he could, going to work with a completely random detective on a case, and for some reason that was never even explained, he couldn't come home for a year. Eventually he started visiting again, but by that point, it was almost like a long lost cousin coming to pay the family a courtesy call. Sayu had to do all the extra work around the house, and make sure her mother never became sick with worry. After 'that incident' Light had visited them all of twice. Matsuda-san was the only person who even remembered that Sochiro had another child, and even he looked up to Light in such a way it was uncanny. Her mother loved these visits, because then she could hear all about Light, and his new fantastic life on the police force. She said that Light never visited them just because he was so stressed about the big important case he was on, and once he solved it, they could be a family again.
Sayu never believed her. She hated the lies her mother told her.
Then Matsuda-san came one day. His appearance was unkempt, and his eyes were red and puffy. He sat them down, and told them the beautiful tragic story that was the death of Light Yagami. How he had fought hard until the end, and with his last breath, had shot down Kira. He had died a hero, and would be remembered as such. Sachiko broke. Sobs rang out through the small empty house that they both inhabited. Matsuda-san had been fidgety and uncomfortable the entire time, but Sachicko's cries put such a terrible look of shame on his face.
Light's funeral was beautiful and amazing. Most of the police force attended. Everyone was wishing their condolences for Sayu's lose. He was awarded high honors from the police for dying in combat. The music was so moving that everyone there was in tears. It was a funeral to remember for a spectacular man that would be remembered for years to come.
That was when Sayu realized that she hated Light most of all.
