Chapter 1
It was boring, school. Ever since she started Secondary School, all she had got were piles and piles of homework. It did not help that she was dyslexic and ADHD. Her teachers did not know what was good for them, her mother had always said that she did not believe in homework.
But today was different. There was a strange buzz around school. They were going on a school trip to New York. Her mum had looked almost bug like when she had seen the price, but had begrudgingly agreed to let her go, on the terms that she brought back two massive bags of M&Ms.
"Don't forget the M&Ms Alyssa!" was the last thing my mum had said to her before she had got to the airport, an all-time low. She bought two packets of gum, just in case there was some kind of delay, it would keep her mouth busy. Breakfast was not an option, there was only a McDonalds and her mum had pointedly told her not to get it, apparently it made her stomach gorge.
While she was thinking, an announcement came over the loudspeaker; "Would Alyssa Graves please got to her flight, which we are delaying. She gulped. Public embarrassment, just what she needed. She hurried to the Gate 14, and got onto her flight. She sat down in an empty seat, which should have been her own. She turned to face her friend, who she was certain she was sitting next to. But when she did, she was faced with a woman, and one with red eyes.
"Hahaha, very funny Lacey, you can take the mask off now."
Only it wasn't a mask, just a very angry demon. Alyssa screamed. The demo lunged, and thanks to her ADHD, she dodged. A tearing in her gut started and she doubled over. But suddenly, she saw the geyser that had erupted right where the demon lady was standing. It was a miracle. A true, supernatural miracle, and she did not know where it had come from. But it certainly was not good for Miss Demon Woman. After being thrown against the side of the plane, she burst into a shower of dust, which coated the whole plane.
Alyssa glanced around, gob smacked.
"Did you, did you see that," she said. Everyone glanced at her like she was some kind of idiot.
"Come on, we need to get going," a voice behind her said.
A calloused hand dragged her away from her seat, and opened an airlock.
"Wait, please, don't push me!" Alyssa screamed, too late. She tumbled out of the plane into open sky. A blood curdling scream sounded as she plummeted towards heavily forested ground. A hand caught her, but there was no hand, and she drifted gently, watching as her would be murderer did the same.
"Hi!" he said and Alyssa shot him a poisonous glare. He shut his mouth and looked away.
After what seemed like an age, a tree branch whipped her, signifying the last stretch until she hit solid ground. She braced herself for impact, but did not expect what came. It felt like she had hit a trampoline, and it did not hurt at all. The guy near her was not worried in the slightest. He just grinned and said:
"Welcome, to Camp Half-Blood! Oooh, that sounded Harry Pottery…"
