Sleeping Vicki
Henry briefly started at the arm stretched across his chest. It was soft; feminine but had plenty of muscle definition. He smiled, as remembered who it belonged to and slowly began leaving his bed for the night.
He gazed at her. She was asleep; the only time she didn't pretend around him, the only time she was completely unguarded. The relaxed pose took years off her life restoring her beauty.
He dressed, and bringing his sketchpad from his art station resumed his position, watching her sleep. It was an activity that brought him more peace, and stillness than he'd experienced since he'd been brought over by Christina.
Vicki was the first mortal he'd felt at ease with in a very long time. She accepted him, and at the same time challenged him. She was his warrior princess, in every sense of the clichéd expression. Fiercely passionate at the same vulnerable; she was often ruled by contradictions. She was cynical, and yet believed true love was possible, even if she couldn't 'or wouldn't' he added take it. She wanted to protect, but needed protection herself even if she wouldn't admit it.
He chuckled silently. She was often the most infuriating woman he'd ever met. But he also wouldn't have her any other way. He loved her, even if it wasn't returned. Finally Henry looked down at his sketchpad. Vicki lay there her hand sprawled across his pillow; her hair spread around her. He took an unneeded breath savouring the moment; if it ended tonight for them he would remember her exactly as she was on the page; possessed of a wild beauty, confident and strong; his ideal woman in any era.
Vicki poked one eye open feeling his intense gaze on her. She felt her lips involuntarily twitch into a smile. "Penny for your thoughts my lord?" She asked.
"You are the most beautiful woman I've ever seen." He answered. She regarded him speculatively, reading the sincerity in his remark.
"Have I struck my lady speechless for once?" He teased.
She smiled. "Call this a new year's gift. I'm accepting a compliment."
It was his turn to grin. He rose from his corner crossing to her side of the bed. He read the clock, 11:59 pm.
"Will you also accept a New Year's kiss?" Henry didn't wait for a response instead kissing her sweetly on her lips. Vicki pulled away first, raising a finger to her lips.
"Happy New Year Henry."
"Happy New Year Vicki."
