Warmth of a Scarf
Summary: It was a simple scarf. But it kept him warm during the coldest nights. LawLu.
Luffy's straw hat was once the most precious thing he treasured in his entire life. But now, the thing he treasured most was a simple scarf. He wore it at all times, even during summer when the temperatures skyrocketed and he'd be forced to walk around the house without a shirt. He wore it everyday, everywhere he went.
The scarf was yellow and made of cotton, the only thing printed on it was a unique smiley at the ends of it. Law told him once that those symbols represented his deceased foster father's smile. Luffy picked up the ends of the sweater and looked down at the symbols, a soft, distant smile gracing his lips as he traced them with his thumb.
The scarf kept him warm even during the coldest nights. He would hold it close to his heart and inhale its scent, closing his eyes and letting happy memories take hold of his mind as it kept the cold away. The object was now his greatest treasure, and he put it above even his precious straw hat that Shanks gave him years ago.
It kept him nice and toasty when he went out and hung with his friends, making sure it was always wrapped tightly around his neck as he ran through snowy fields as they all searched for a new 'adventure'.
It kept him snug when he'd have to go to the store at night because he'd forget to do his shopping in the afternoon. He never got any compliments about it when he'd walk through the isles, but that was fine. He didn't care if other people liked it or not. It was his special scarf, and his alone.
It kept him company when he'd visit the cemetery. He'd leave a bouquet of fire lilies on one grave, bowing his head and talking to the gravestone about how his life was going so far. For the other grave he'd visit, he'd leave a bouquet of roses, and just sit by the grave in silence until the sun dipped below the horizon.
It kept him warm as he walked back home in the dark, throwing his sweater aside as he changed into his pajamas and skipped dinner. He'd snuggle with it as he slept, keeping it close to his heart as he'd toss and turn in the large, empty bed all throughout the night.
It kept him from breaking down when he'd wake up with tears in his eyes at remembering why he was alone in his house, and why his heart felt like breaking every time he dreamt of that handsome face, beautiful smile, and phantom caresses.
It kept him warm when he found himself all alone during the day, his hand constantly clutching the scarf like a life savior as his mind would replay the memories of happy days gone by.
It reminded him that he once loved someone with all his heart.
It reminded him that Law was no longer alive.
It reminded him just how much he hated scarves.
A/N: Aaaaaand…why did I write this? Oh yeah, I ordered a Law scarf. And this popped into my head. Sorry it's written so badly. XD Believe it or not this was supposed to be something lovey-dovey between Luffy and Law. Then, somehow, it turned into this. ._., Review, maybe? If it's worth it?
