Mike Ross was confused. This was not supposed to be happening at all. OK, it had been a while since he'd revised his five year plan, but he was pretty sure that 'pretend to be from Harvard to lie yourself into a job and then fall in love with your boss' wasn't on there. He mentally rewound the last part, running it over and over in his head.

Had he really fallen in love with Harvey Specter? His subconscious had been giving him a pretty hard time about that one lately. It usually went along the lines of Sorry, Mike but when did you start to find guys attractive? And why the hell did you choose that one? You know he's your boss, right? Oh yeah, that's gonna end so well.

But none of this seemed to matter, because it was true. Why else did he feel that peculiar lightness in his chest every morning when he stepped into the elevator? Or look for any possible excuse to ask Harvey for advice even though after three months of very steep learning curve he could now pretty much do his job on his own? Or spend far too long daydreaming about what Harvey's hair would look like in the morning? All messy from sleep and product-free.

Especially the last one.

"Oh Jesus," Mike sighed, dropping his face in his hands, "I'm so screwed."

Harvey Specter watched in amusement as his associate sank further and further in his chair and wondered what had happened to make Mike look so despondent. When he got that look on his face he reminded Harvey of a puppy that's just peed on the most expensive rug in the house and is waiting to be punished. Only he would argue his way out of it in such an irresistible way that you'd end up stroking his ears until his tail wagged.

Okay, Harvey, I think you've pretty much exhausted that analogy, he thought, smiling wistfully to himself.

"Wow, Harvey, who's the lucky lady?" Donna appeared alongside him, her amused voice breaking into his thoughts.

He looked at her in confusion.

"Well, she must be something special, judging by the look on your face."

Harvey looked puzzled. "What are talking about, Donna?"

"Oh come on, Harvey; what else could you have been thinking about?"

Harvey shoved his hands in his pockets and shrugged. "Sushi?"

Donna shook her head and laughed. "Harvey Specter, I've been working for you long enough to recognise that look. It's your smitten look. Do you want to start with flowers, or this a lingerie occasion?"

Harvey looked genuinely puzzled and now it was Donna's turn to look confused. "I'm sorry Harvey, I thought you must have a new woman in your life."

For just a moment her boss looked shaken to the core. Donna watched as he passed a hand over his face to compose himself. "Looks like you read me wrong this time, Donna." He glanced at his watch pointedly. "Isn't it time you went home?" "

Harvey tried to ignore her arch smile. "Okay boss, my mistake. Don't stay too late."

His only reply was a distracted nod.

Donna smiled to herself as she stepped in the elevator. She knew he wasn't lying to her; there was no new woman. But she couldn't help noticing that during their whole conversation, Harvey had not taken his eyes off of one of the cubicles across the hall. The cubicle which was home to a certain new associate in a skinny tie and cheap shoes. She was still smiling as she entered the parking garage. In fact she'd stared singing.

Jessica owed her fifty bucks.
