"Well, there she is."

"Yeah..."

"You gonna' do it?"

"I have to, don't I?"

"Yep."

"Then, I suppose so."

James Potter stood up, despite the warning from the butterflies in his stomache. It was obvious; he was nervous.

He took a step forward, towards her table, wishing he had just stayed at his seat.

For months, he and his friend, Sirius Black, had been planning a way to get the 'girl of his dreams', Lily Evans, to accept his offer, and be the lucky girl to be his girlfriend.

Without realising it, words emerged from his lips, "Erm...Hi Lily."

Without looking up from her small portion of salad, she simply answered, "No."

"But...I haven't asked you yet."

If looks could kill, the glances thrown at her by the jealous girls around would have definately murdered her. But, she said nothing, and after a while, he became impatient.

"I need to talk to you." He said, standing up straight.

"About what?"

He rubbed his neck. Ugh.

"Stuff."

"Then, no."

"Why?" He whined.

"Because, A., you're not giving me a straight answer, which means you obviously have nothing important to say," She took a bite of her salad, and chewed, "and, B., you annoy me Potter. Go. Away."

He stared at the back of her head for a second, suprised, although this wasn't the first time he had been rejected by Miss Evans.

He stalked away defeated.

"Sirius..."

"Mpht!" Sirius attempted, with his mouth full of Potatoes.

"That plan..."

"Yeah?" Sirius swallowed.

"Sucked."

"Oh?"

A sigh came from behind them.

"What did you want, Potter?"

James's head jerked around, causing his neck to pop audibly.

"O-Oh..." He stuttered.

He rubbed his neck and clumsily stood up, nearly tripping.

She led him out of the Great Hall, with even more envious stares from the onlookers watching them depart.

As the door snapped shut, she leaned against a wall, and looked up at him.

"Well?"

"What made you change your mind, Evans?" he asked, deciding to try not to act too nervous.

She sighed.

"Big change...you go from calling me Lily to Evans..."

He blinked. Oops.

"Well..I don't have time for this..I know what you're going to ask." she said, taking a step forwards.

"No...wait. I wanted to ask you," He said quietly, putting his hand on her shoulder to stop her, "if you would...you know...go out with me..."

She frowned.

"You ask me this almost every day-"

"Every other day," he corrected her.

To his surprise, she smiled.

"So...why drag me out here? Why not ask me in there?"

"Because, I figured I might have embarrassed you in front of your friends."

"Never stopped you before," She said leaning against the wall again.

"Well...I thought maybe that's why you kept saying no..."

"Well, it's not that easy. I mean...it's not like you're going to ask me and I'll say yes, then we're 'Going out' for about a month then we get sick of each other and you dump me. I'm not-"

"Like other girls," he finished her sentence, and turned around happily.

She stared after him, shaking her head, as he pushed through the doors, seeming to skip slightly.
