You were as the cottage rose,
So small and delicate a flower.
So close to perfection.
Your thorns were small and unseen,
Until I grasped you carelessly.
The pain was small,
But sharp enough to never forget.
Had I taken care,
And let you grow,
Your beautiful love,
My Love,
I still would know.
You were wild,
And I wild more still.
Had I not been too rough,
My love,
Our love I would not kill.
You were a small point of colour,
Pale pinks, red and green,
Across this now grey and bleak scene.
As the rose that grows well on your grave,
Had I taken more care of you,

Your love I would have today.
