She slowly opened her eyes and rolled over to the bedside table. She reached over to check the time and saw '8:04' in bright, shining numbers written on the screen.
"Shit!" She whispered quietly and immediately jumped out of bed. She grabbed a simple, red dress and a denim jacket out of her wardrobe. Her room was filled with boxes and she only had a few things left in her wardrobe.
It was her first day of college and she had never been more nervous in her life. Although, technically it wasn't her first day of actual college classes and stuff, instead she had to spend today moving into her dormroom. The problem that was making her nervous was the whole roommate thing, she didn't know who it was or even if it is a girl or a boy!
"You're Lydia Martin. You made it through high school, barely keeping your shit together, but you made it. It won't be that hard, just go there, meet your room mate, go to classes and don't be late. Oh, and make friends" Lydia's little talks always helped her, she did think it was a bit weird talking to herself, but she didn't care because it helped her. She thought of it as Allison giving her advice, she missed her so much. Lydia had always dreamed of going to college with her and sharing a dorm room, but Allison didn't make it to college and now that all of the others had gone, apart from one.
"Lydia! Come on, Malia's here with the car! Do you need help carrying some boxes?!" Her mum called from down stairs.
"Yes please!" Lydia shouted back and soon heard footsteps running up the stairs. The door opened and Malia walked in.
"College! Lydia we made it, this is so cool!" Malia was nearly shaking with excitement but suddenly stopped when she saw Lydia's face, she wasn't happy.
"Yeah, it's cool" she paused "I miss her, Malia, I miss her so much. This was suppost to be our thing. I barely made it through high school without her, how am I going to manage college?!" She blurted out and tossed her socks on the floor.
"I know, but I'm here and I will help you through it. I know I'm not Allison and I never will be, but I can help you. I'm sorry that I can't be in the same dorm as you, but I will come meet you there every morning and we can go to our classes together and get lunch together. How does that sound?" Malia had sat next to her and was rubbing her shoulder.
"That sounds good" She smiled "tell your 'roomie' I said hi" She rolled her eyes
"Kira is my friend whether you like it/ her or not" They stood back up and started lifting boxes.
After around half an hour, they had managed to fit all of the boxes in the boot of the car.
"I don't know if I can do this. I mean, it was all fine when we were packing, but now it's just too overwhelming the stress is too much. Can we not just stay home and eat chips for the rest of our life?" Lydia spoke really fast.
"Come on, get in" Malia gestured for her to hop in the front seat. Lydia groaned and jumped in the car.
Eventually, they arrived at the college and their jaws dropped at the sight. They had been there before to look at it but it looked much bigger without all the huddles of people. A few students were dotted around the place but they didn't bother Lydia because she knew they can't do much harm, it was the group of boys laughing and pointing in the corner. They were pointing at Malia, then they turned and laughed at Lydia. There was one boy that stood out to Lydia, he had dirty brown hair and grey eyes, his jawline was very sharp. He was the main idiot and she wanted to punch him, but she couldn't mess up that 'handsome' face so she stopped herself and carried on walking.
The courtyard was huge, it had flowerbeds and benches everywhere. There was a tree planted right in the middle with a circle of grass around it, it had three benches around it and Lydia immediately knew that she will spend most of her free time sat on one of them benches reading a book, she smiled at the thought of it.
"What are you smiling about? We just got laughed at by a bunch of college idiots" Malia chuckled.
"Nothing, it's just so beautiful here. Don't you think?"
"Yeah I guess, see it's not as bad as you thought" Lydia ignored her and entered the reception.
"Hello, welcome to Westerburg College. How may I help?" A redheaded woman asked from behind a desk.
"I'm Lydia Martin and this is Malia-"
"Hale, I'm Malia Hale and we would like to know where our dorm rooms are please" She interrupted. Malia was adopted but killed her family in a car accident and then found out her biological dad was Peter Hale. A Werewolf. Lydia and the rest of the pack knew about the accident, but never wanted to bring it up.
"Lydia Martin and Malia Hale" The woman stopped and started typing on a computer. "Ah yes, I found a Lydia Martin, but no Malia Hale. There is a Malia Heath, Malia Bell, Malia Tate-"
"Malia Tate, that's me" She interrupted once again.
"Are you sure? I can't let any imposters in, do you have an ID?"
"Yes, but it says Malia Hale because I'm-" She sighed "Adopted. It's a long story, but long story short, biologically a Hale, adoptively a Tate" Lydia rubbed her arm as she could tell that Malia was on the verge of crying.
"Ok, sorry. Lydia, your room is number 145 which is up the stairs and to the left. Malia, your room is number 146 which is next to hers" She smiled and the girls squealed quietly.
"Thank you, have a good day" Lydia smiled back.
"Thank you, have a good day" A high pitched voice came from behind them, followed by laughter. It was them boys from before. Lydia just shrugged it off but Malia didn't and instead she walked right up to the one who mimicked Lydia and slapped him, hard. He had to gain his balance so he didn't completely fall over. Her eyes started to glow a bright blue and Lydia was quick to pull her away and drag her to the stairs.
"What was that all about?" Lydia sat her down on the steps.
"They pissed me off, I'm sorry but you looked like you were going to cry and I know how upset you get when people do stuff like that, so I shut him up" She shrugged like it was nothing.
"I know that they are annoying, but you can't pull stunts like that" She paused "And stop with the eyes!" Lydia whispered violently.
"What eyes?" Malia stopped to think "Did they go blue again?! Shit, I'm sorry. I will try to keep it under control, but if people keep being stupid then I'm gonna get angry and-"
"and that leads to werewolf shit, I know" Lydia huffed.
"Werecoyote. Not a werewolf" She was very insistent when it came to that.
"Yeah. We should get to our dorm rooms!" Lydia squealed. "Wait, what if my room mate is a boy?"
"Your room mate can't be a boy, college can't do that" Malia rolled her eyes "Your supposed to be the smart one, Lydia"
"I am the smart one" She pointed at the wall "According to that poster, boys can share dorms with girls"
"Oh, well shit. Will that be a problem for you, he may be hot?" She laughed. They both stood up and climbed up the stairs.
They eventually arrived at dorm rooms, 145 and 146.
"Here we go" They spoke in unison and stepped into their separate rooms.
