His Second Family CH. 3

AN: Hey guys! It's been a while, and I'm sorry for the wait. Inspiration hasn't really struck me yet though, so this chapter may not be as great. If you guys wanna' leave me some suggestions, I would love to get some ideas.

It started as a normal Thursday. Loki was playing one of his more minor pranks, simply shorting out all the electronics in New York with his magic. It was something a few SHEILD agents could have taken care of, but Fury had decided to make his Avengers suffer. Anything Loki related, only the Avengers dealt with.

The battle was practically over anyway. Loki had relinquished his control over the electronics and was now exchanging harsh words with Thor as they floated over New York. The other Avengers were calming the citizens and fixing the technology. So why had it gone so horribly wrong?

"Brother listen to me!"

"Brother? For the last time I am not your brother! I would gladly be related the frost giants instead of you, you great buffoon!"

"Give up this useless struggle! Come with me... You barely put up a fight now anyway! We can return to Asgard and all will be well once more..."

"And return to the realm that shunned me? Back to the 'loving' arms of your father?! I was in a good mood, Thor. But now, I think some of the Midgardians may fall!"

"I'm warning you, Lo-" And Thor fell from the sky, crashing on asphalt. Loki's eyes widened for an instant and then fell back into a satiated smirk. However, when he saw the blond Asgardian frozen on the ground, the smirk turned to a look of aloof concern. He saw a small bit of blood drip from his /not/ brother's neck and located the dart.

His eyes hardened and he quickly made a copy of it, dropping the original by Thor's neck. He saw the Avengers running toward them, all in varying stages of anger and panic, and nodded in satisfaction before teleporting away.

"Thor! THOR!" Steve and Natasha checked his vitals and found them fluctuating. Tiny bolts would flash out of his body every so often, stabilizing his vitals before they dropped rapidly. Tony saw the blood on Thor's neck and snatched the dart.

"Hulk! Carry point- break to the med lab. We need to analyze the dart and what poison they used on him… Whoever they are."

The Hulk picked up the demigod with surprising gentleness before leaping away. He walked into the lab and slowly placed Thor on the bed before shifting back into Bruce. Ever the doctor, Bruce began running the usual tests for poison while Tony and the others sat by Thor's bed.

As Tony began to analyze the dart with Jarvis, the Thunder God groaned weakly and opened his eyes blearily.

"Thor!" Natasha was on her feet in an instant. "What did Loki hit you with?"

"It…" Thor paused to cough blood into a basin near the bed before falling back weakly. "Twasn't Loki…" His eyes closed and he sighed, dead to the world.

"I don't know what kind of poison it is, Tony! It's acting too fast for me to counter it." Bruce wrung his hands in worry. It had taken months for the Avengers to slowly bond, and they had become something of a family. If Thor died… They wouldn't only lose a fighter, but also a family member.

"What does he mean it wasn't Loki? Of course it was! He was the last person to see Thor." Steve's eyes flashed dangerously. Whoever hurt Thor would pay.

"Guys… The dart was made in Latveria. The poison can only be found there. We don't have an antidote! Unless…" Tony's eyes widened and Clint cursed.

"No other way? Are you sure?" Clint and Tony were on their way to Loki's known places of residence. Yes, they knew where he lived, but it was a long unspoken agreement that they wouldn't trespass there so long as Loki never teleported in and murdered them in their sleep. It was an odd honor system, but it worked.

The quinjet picked up an Asgardian energy signature, and locked on. Clint and Tony found Loki waiting for them on top of a skyscraper, sipping coffee.

"Twice in one day? To what do I owe the honor?" Loki sneered as he took a long sip.

"Thor's in danger. You know that! You were the last person to see him before he took the dart."

"Ah yes… Doom's dart. What of it? I'm certain that oaf's magic is already healing him. He is the god of healing." Loki replied flippantly, but there was an almost imperceptible hardening in his eyes.

"He's not healing, Reindeer Games. He woke up once, said two words, and went back to being comatose." Tony saw the flicker of worry in the demigod's eyes and almost smiled. Loki could hate them all he wanted, but he was oddly possessive of them all.

"It's your call, Green Eyes. I thought you were the only one who would ever kill Thor?" Clint was quick to catch on. "We just want an antidote."

Loki's eyes flashed an unearthly green before settling back into emerald. "Mind your words, Mortal! It matters not to me whether that buffoon lives or dies. Now, begone before I decide to not be so charitable!"

Clint and Tony went back to join the others. As the day turned into night, Thor's condition grew worse. The Avengers slept in the lab that night, their senses hyper alert. Which was why, when they felt a new presence in the room, they were up in an instant.

Natasha prepared a dagger, and Clint notched an arrow as they slowly went down to Thor's bed. They relaxed unconsciously when they saw Loki, eyes and hands glowing as he forced magic into the puncture on Thor's neck.

"I hope you realize what a sacrifice I am making, you oaf. Mind you, this changes nothing. I hate you with every fiber of my being, but regardless… When you die, I want to be certain that it was me who dealt the blow." Loki whispered as the poison slowly worked its way out of Thor's body.

Suddenly, the lights flashed on, and Thor groaned at the sudden change. As the last of the poison was eradicated, he slowly came back into consciousness. He opened his eyes and was happily surprised when he felt no pain. He grinned when he saw Loki, but said nothing. Perhaps Loki would never come home with him, but this was enough for now. He thanked him with his eyes, and grinned even wider when he saw a flicker of affection in Loki.

The Avengers said nothing, and nodded mutely when Loki repeated his spiel of how what he had done changed nothing. Even Loki knew that it was mainly empty words and teleported away, not before grabbing one of the bottles of alcohol on Tony's desk.

"The Midgardians do not require more than pranks to fall into a state of panic. If I were not so amused with this realm, I would take over once more. I'll be taking that drink now."

The others gathered around Thor and smiled when they saw his happy- go- lucky grin.

"Hello, my friends. I hope I did not trouble you too much…"

"Thor, how did you know that Loki wasn't the one to put that dart in you?" Clint would always remain suspicious of Loki, but even he couldn't deny what the green eyed demigod had done.

"It is simple, my friend. Today is my day of honor. Thursday is Thor's day. I must admit though, there is one person I pity very much today."

Bruce and Natasha smiled wickedly when they caught the glint in Thor's eyes. "Are you sure you don't want us to rip Doom to shreds for you?"

"Nay, my friends. I am certain he will have his hands full with another." As he laughed in glee, the others chuckled with him.

Far away, in Latveria, one Victor Von Doom would find himself in a very distressing position. He was tied up by his ankles, upside down over the ledge of his castle. He would meet the terrifying eyes of a certain god and would shudder as he saw the unearthly magic in his hateful eyes.

"Doom, the Asgardian is mine. None will harm Thor but me. The next time I find this has happened, you will not be as lucky as you are now."

Later, he would find all his latest technology broken, and his blueprints destroyed, courtesy of Tony. Arrows and daggers would trail him constantly, never hitting him, but always far too close for comfort. His clothes would be replaced with reds, whites, and blues. But the worst was when he saw the Hulk, the very next day. After being slung like a rag doll, he would hear the unmistakable roar of thunder, and see a very righteous, very powerful, and most certainly alive god of thunder.

The Avengers (and Loki) sent their message. No one messed with their family and got away with it.

Mkay, you guys! There's my Loki chapter. I'm not extremely happy with it, but I don't think it turned out too bad. I don't know if Loki was OOC, but I hope he was in character enough for you all to enjoy the story! So I'd love it if you could PM or review and tell me if you'd like to see another chapter. Thanks for reading!
