A/N: Hey guys! So, it's day one of Paily Week, and I decided to add my "creative work" to the amazing things that are coming for all us Paily shippers for the following days. This prompt for day one is "Meet the Parents", and my story will be focusing on Paige meeting Mr. Fields for the first time. Let me know what you guys think and I'll probably be seeing you tomorrow as well for Day Two!
He's Not as Scary as He Looks

Bold. Rugged. Protective.
All those words came to mind whenever Paige thought of Mr. Fields. Not that she thought of him often, but whenever Emily talked about him, which was often, she couldn't help but pay attention to the way Emily described the little things about him. Although, just the fact that he was in the National Guard gave Paige the impression that he was all of those things.
But, the man seated before her now, is not the man she had always pictured.
Bold. His smile was one of the many bold things about him. His pearly whites, almost identical to Emily's, shined brightly as Paige cracked joke after joke, seeming to ease any tension in the room. His laughter was intoxicating; just being in the same room as the man brought Paige's own mood up significantly, the nervousness and anxiety now replaced with enthusiasm and excitement. If she had known that Mr. Fields was this easy to joke around with, the endless minutes pacing back and forth across Emily's front porch would have been unnecessary.
Rugged. Paige could tell his features were more hardened that average due to his man years of service. His eyes held a sense of complexity that told you some of the hardships he's had to face, just by happening to look into them. Calloused fingers intertwined with Pam's told a story all their own; from building the tree house in Emily's backyard, to the pulling and tugging on ropes in boot camp, to the tight grip they held on a weapon.
Protective. The way he slightly placed his body in front of his daughter's when he greeted Paige at the door; when he eyed her carefully as she formally introduced herself; the firm but gentle grip that he had on Paige's hand when he shook it said "you hurt my daughter, I'll kill you. And don't think for a second I'm kidding. I know how to". Even after Paige stepped into the house and hugged Pam, she could still feel his protective gaze on her from afar.
All previous assumptions Paige made about Mr. Fields didn't match up to the way he truly acted around his wife, around Emily, around Paige herself. Never for a second did Paige feel threatened (except for the handshake at the front door). He seemed much like Emily, with a bubbly attitude and a friendly demeanor, and she felt they both instantly connected over the amount of love that they shared for Emily.
Which is why Paige had done this in the first place.
Emily was persistent, and Paige was hesitant. But, eventually, Paige had agreed to meet Mr. Fields- Wayne, actually. He kept correcting her every time she called him that- after mulling it over.
Now, she doesn't even remember why she was so terrified of meeting her girlfriend's father in the first place. He's not as scary as he looks.
