Tony Stark was never one to sit down and talk about feelings, this was what one Steve Rogers knew all to well. At first he would find it incredibly frustrating. How could certain situations get solved if one half of the relationship refused to say a word that wasn't sarcastic? It didn't take Steve too long to realize that, that's just what love is. For what one lacks, the other makes up for. So, he does.

Which is exactly why he idles in the bathroom adjoined to the bedroom he shares with Tony. Even though it's been a good few years now that he's been unfrozen, Steve still finds it hard every time another year rolls around. All the people he had to leave behind now just memories for him to forget as he fought out the rest of his life. Days like these, they drive him to the brink of not being able to stay himself. This is when he's lost in the modern day world and finds himself more alone than he should, despite all the friends he's made since waking up.

"What's keeping you? Fall asleep in the tub?"

Steve tosses his towel onto the edge of the bath tub. In a pair of gray sweats and a white t-shirt, he puts on the appearance of normal. Striding out of the bathroom, he moves straight for the edge of the bed. He pulls the covers back and climbs under the covers, avoiding Tony's eyes. "Will I see you at S.H.I.E.L.D's meeting?"

"Most likely." Steve misses how Tony looks him over, eyes full of worry that usually isn't there. Tony redirects his attention to the ceiling as Steve lies down. Although he doesn't show it, he's come to know these little fits of anxiety the blond has. The strong, unshakeable soldier looking as though he's going to shatter. To have to see that, Tony can only think he's taking advantage of Steve's love and friendship. That he's not the one Steve needs, just happens to want. Nonetheless, as Steve rolls onto his side, Tony follows. One strong arm wraps tightly around the, technically, older man.

Silence meets the darkness of the room, making it so Tony isn't quite sure whether or not Steve is still awake. Still, whether he's awake or not, Tony sighs against Steve's hair. "I'm here for you Cap."

Not daring to talk after once Tony has said that, Steve nestles closer against Tony, lavishing the warmth. That's just when Steve realizes, just as he always does - although he's lost, Tony's his rock and so is he to Tony. Two lost souls clinging to one another through the unbreakable bonds of love.

A trade of sorts with a dear friend. ; ^ ; I hope I didn't butcher the pairing... I'm sure I did. I love it so much and it's my first piece for them. Why can't it be happy? Gah... Hope you enjoyed it anyway.
