The Brigade
Footsteps echoed in the halls as Sky made her way through the Academy. It wasn't the same Academy that she had visited during that mission with the team so many years ago. This was the Academy for Communications. The place Fitz had told her she would have gone to if she had been a normal Shield recruit.
Sky tried to ignore the students that lined the halls. They were staring at her, that is, when they weren't whispering fiercely. The students thought they were being quiet but didn't realize just how their murmurs echoed in the halls. The most repeated words were simple, "the Brigade." That was what they called her. Sighing, Sky kept her eyes forward as she tried to recall the directions she had been given earlier. She knew she was going to be here for a while and would have to get used to the whispers at some point.
After several minutes of walking, Sky finally found the head of the school's office. Unfortanatly, it was empty. Sky heaved a deep sigh and closed her her eyes. She supposed she ought to sit down and wait but she was restless. Surveying the office, Sky took in the different baubles and knick-knacks piled on shelves. There was a mirror hanging one the wall nearest her. The mirror was angled so that it caught her reflection and displayed the full range of her features.
It had been a long time since she was the happy, bubbly Sky that wanted to be an agent of Shield and her reflection showed that. It was startleing to see how much she looked like May, battleworn and cold. Of course, fighting a war with Hydra could do that to a person. It really was no wonder she was so closed off after Ward's betrayal. She had payed him back for that though. Sky would always remember what it felt like to point a gun at him and pull the trigger. He hadn't expected that. He had still thought she was a vulnerable girl, not realizing how much training she had done while promising herself she would kill him. Killing him hadn't been enough though, she couldn't rest until he was buring six feet under in a cement grave. She wasn't going to take any chances of him being brought back to life.
It was strange, Sky didn't feel any remorse or sadness when she thought of what she had done. The old Sky would have, but the old Sky died the day she found out about Ward's betrayal. Now she was the Brigade, another agent to be whispered about, like the Calvalry. And like the Cavalry she was holeing herself away, but, instead of doing paperwork, she would teach the next generation of agents to destroy themselves for Shield.
