He had failed.
No he had not just screwed something up by being clumsy. His error had caused a life to be taken. And not just any life
Hers.
The one person who he had sworn to protect and had finally admitted to himself, and to her, that he loved her more than his whole life and anything else in his life had been taken away….and it had been all his fault. If he had only been more alert, more attentive to the situation, she wouldn't have taken that bullet.
She would still be here.
It was his fault.
He could still hear her pain filled gasps as she fought for breath or the way her skin started to become cold and how her blood had stained her whitening skin. Her hand shakily coming to caress his cut cheek, and how her eye's had filled with tears.
Her last words as he was ripped away from her wounded body would forever be in his mind.
"Souske, never forget that I love you..cough..I want you to know that for the time we were together I was happy… you made me happy…cough…cough…gasp….I just wish I could be able to see what our kid would have looked like" she made a gesture that he realized he couldn't remember and he hated to forget anything she did in those precious last moments."…I love you."
Souske curled up in the corner of his room with silent tears streaming down his face, while Kurtz, Mao and Tessa looked on helplessly knowing that anything they said or did would be meaningless.
" I'll never mess up again."

Kaname struggled weakly to lift her head to see her whereabouts. And the pain in her head and chest weren't helping at all. That and the fact that she couldn't remember much wasn't helping either.
" sir, it seems the pregnant woman are alright. Any later and we would have lost both of them."
" I'm so glad."
' why are they talking about me? Why is he relived? Is he the father? He must be. Why else would he be here?'
Kaname slipped back into unconsciousness unaware that she was horribly mistaken.
