Disclaimer: I don't own Reign :(
AN: Here I am, supposed to be working on Late Nights when I come across this. I forgot about it. I have no clue where this came from or if there was a particular episode that inspired it, but here we go. Just a little Catherine and Henry one shot. Enjoy the read.
If it made a difference—not that it did—she wouldn't care. She really wouldn't. She wouldn't have butterflies in her stomach when he raked his gaze over her figure. She wouldn't lose her breath when he stood just that bit closer. She wouldn't need to hold her hands together so that they wouldn't tremble. No, she was beyond all that. She was a Queen, for goodness' sake! She may have been born a commoner, but she had the full bearing of one with royal blood. She looked at him from the corner of her eye. He cut a fine figure tonight as he did every night. His cream shirt shone underneath the midnight blue doublet that he wore open. The chain he had slung around his shoulders was the gold one she had made for him on an anniversary. He didn't wear his crown tonight. Not that he needed to. He looked every part the king he was.
"Was there something you needed, wife?"
Damn. He'd caught her looking.
"Nothing, husband dear."
"Are you so sure?"
"When am I ever not?"
"Right you are."
"Of course I am."
He snorted daintily, just as royals do.
"Are you enjoying yourself this evening?"
"As much as a person can at these things."
"Yes, parties and balls and entertainments are so trying."
"Please, I put these nights together. Don't tell me I didn't do a magnificent job."
"Oh, but you did." He inclined his head in admission. "I look forward to the oncoming festival. However will you out do yourself?"
"Just wait. I'm full of wonderful things."
He smiled at her then. Not that it mattered.
AN: Rereading this after such a long time, I think there really was that ongoing internal conflict for her to not be affected by him. Just thoughts. Thank you for reading! Xoxo Lina loves you.
