Learning to Fly
"So..." Donna began awkwardly. "For my first try... how terribly did I do?"
The Doctor stood next to her, his hand supporting his chin. His brows were furrowed. It was apparent that currently, he was in very deep thought. Or, it was possible that he simply didn't know how to start. Yeah, it was probably the latter...
"Wellll," he began uncertainly, staring at the destruction in front of him.
"Oh, don't tell me I did that bad!" she scoffed. "It's just a wall! A stupid, brick wall! I didn't even see it on the monitor, it- it just came out of nowhere!"
He chuckled slightly, and ran his fingers through his tousled hair. "Funny, I never knew brick walls could materialize out of thin air," he teased.
Donna couldn't help but smirk and shake her frustration away when she saw the grin that was slowly creeping over her friend's face. She rolled her eyes. "We materialized out of thin air," she pointed out glibly. "And you say that as if you've never collided into walls when learning how to pilot the TARDIS."
"No, I say that because you're piloting the TARDIS better than I did when I first tried. There was this piloting test, back then on my home world..." he mentioned, madly grinning like he was indulging in some distant memory. "I flunked it."
She burst into laugher then, almost more at the pride the Doctor seemed to have about flunking it than the situation itself. "No way, you didn't!"
"Oh, believe me, I did..."
Silently again, they began to gawk at what usedto be a brick wall in front of them. Now, there was a nice TARDIS-sized hole through the middle of it, and the bricks above the hole were quickly beginning to loose their stability. She heard a crack, and watched one of them fall to the ground. It split in half, spitting nasty brick dust into the air like a puff of perfume. The Doctor stuffed his hands back into the pockets of his brown overcoat, looking ready to leave.
"Well, Donna, all's well that ends well, I suppose," he said cheerily, and started to roam back towards the doors of his ship. "Could've been worse. At least there was nobody around to witness."
For a moment, Donna stared at the mass of charred rubble she left in her wake and grimaced slightly.
"Yeah, could've been worse..." she mused, and then quickly ran after the Doctor. She didn't care if she destroyed a flippin' wall on some alien planet, she still wanted another go at it.
She was Donna Noble, after all. Stubbornness was almost her middle name.
Yeah, so I really don't know where that idea came from. Hope you all enjoyed! :-)
