The sound of the front door clicking roused Lindsay Monroe from one of her now all too frequent afternoon naps.

"Danny?"

"Yeah, babe, it's just me. You can go back to sleep."

Lindsay shook her head as her new husband, Danny Messer, made his way over to the couch, kissing her forehead softly.

"What are you doing home so early?" she asked.

Danny rubbed the back of his neck. "Aah, well, ya know, we wrapped the case up early, so Mac said I could go home and spend some time with you."

"Dannnny?" Lindsay raised her eyebrows.

"Okay, okay. I got suspended, a'right? But it's not as if the guy didn't deserve it."

"What guy? Dan, what happened?"

Danny sighed, settling back against the couch next to his wife. He wrapped one arm around her, letting it rest gently against the side of her now very pregnant belly.

"It was Michael Elgers. I kinda rammed his face into the ground a few times - but he deserved it!" Danny defended himself again. "The bastard spat on Hawkes and resisted arrest - I wasn't gonna just stand there, Linds, you know me."

"Yes, I know you Danny, or have you not noticed that I haven't said you did anything wrong - you're the one getting defensive before I even said anything. I believe in you Danny. You have to trust me. We have to be honest with each other."

Danny nodded and hung his head. "I know. I'm sorry. I guess I was just worried you'd be mad at me."

Lindsay rolled her eyes. "Danny, when are you going to realise that we're in this together now? I'll always stand by you. I promise. Now tell me the full story."

Leaning over and kissing his wife softly on the lips, Danny shook his head softly to himself. How did he end up with such a fantastic women?

As he told Lindsay the story of the case, he wasn't surprised to see tears in her eyes. Tough as his Montana was most of the time, this was a story that would upset any sane person.

Lindsay shook her head and leaned against Danny's shoulder when he was finished. "You're right. He did deserve it."

Danny nodded. "I thought so. Hawkes is mad at me, though."

Lindsay already knew about Hawkes' Uncle Frank, Danny had called her earlier and she'd sent her condolences to her friend. She could see both of their points of view on this one, but like the last time, she felt she was bound to stand up for Danny.

"Honestly, if I'd been there and not been eight and a half months pregnant, I probably would have done the same thing, or at least helped you."

Danny laughed. "That I would believe. But, hey, like I said to Mac, at least now I get to spend more time with you before our little girl gets here."

"Yeah," Lindsay smiled. Since she'd gotten back from Montana three days earlier, she'd noticed that Danny had very much warmed up to the fact that the baby was going to be a girl.

"So, hubby, how do you want to spend this time?" she asked, awkwardly manoeuvring herself to face him. These days, even the littlest movements had become a mission. She couldn't wait for her daughter to be born.

Danny grinned. "I can think of a few ways," he replied, leaning in to kiss her again, his lips attacking hers, their tongues battling for dominance. It was something Danny had always loved about their relationship - even the littlest things turned into a playful competition, and Lindsay's competitive streak made him love her even more.

Voicing his thoughts, he whispered, "I love you," in her ear before returning his lips to hers, this time in a softer kiss.

Lindsay smiled against his lips. "I love you, too, Dan."

The end. A pointless little oneshot, really, but would love to know what you thought anyway!
