A drabble for the Categories challenge on xoxLewrahxox's forum.
My choices are: Fear (anger too, I guess...) - TonksLupin – mirror.
Categories
All you have to do is to select a thing or two in each of the three categories (depending on the category!) and to write a fic of a multiple of 100 containing the theme, the object and the characters that you have selected. You can do it anyway you want and in any style. You can make the theme run throughout the story or just a section, you can have both characters talking constantly or just being mentioned. The object can be central to the story, or it could just be an object that your character describes.
Somewhere, far away, a door slammed.
Tonks didn't move from her seat at first.
Numb, she remained there curled into a ball, her hands white on her lap. She stared down at those hands, at the small gold ring there, faintly glistening in the low light.
A lie.
Soundlessly she stood and moved across the room. The window – no, the mirror, where she paused, hovering, her lungs tight. Purple dripping from her hair, replaced by mousy brown. Wide, wordless dark eyes, pale cheeks, bloodless lips... With a jolt of defiance she willed the colour back. It crept, lazy and fake, on pallid skin and then was no more. Angry tears flowed in her eyes as she gazed into a face that might truly be her own, after all, for she was powerless to change it.
(pitiful – parted lips and empty eyes)
Her eyes traced the woman she was, all the way down to a tiny bump between her hips. Then they closed, frightened. She could conceal her child no more. It was left with her, just her.
Tonks – Nymphadora, Nymphadora Lupin – held cold hands against her stomach, and felt the icy taste of terror, stirring in the depths of her.
