Summary: Soma Forest, the hex, and...that shining object that fell from the sky. Fou-Lu/Mami, angst. (One-shot)
Author's Note: I FUCKING LOVE THIS PAIRING, FO' REAL. And even when it's a single sentence, Fou-Lu's speech is still a pain.
With an effort, Fou-Lu pushed himself off the ground. Or, at least tried, and only partially succeeded. The hex was draining his strength, and the screams of the unholy creatures it had unleashed grated on his sensitive ears, threatening to shatter his concentration again. His arms shook with the effort of holding his upper body off the ground, and yet, his legs simply wouldn't move.
Clenching his jaw, he looked around, trying to see through the thick miasma that surrounded him. A shining object caught his attention, and he reached out for it, and pulled it close for inspection.
Two little brass bells, strung together with a strip of fabric, stained red. He shook, and his arm finally gave out, leaving him sprawled out on the ground again. These bells... Fou-Lu closed his eyes, resting his head against his arm. They were Mami's. The hex around him... produced by sacrificing her life. A rage gripped him, and he shook, not with weakness from the hex, but with the effort of not screaming in fury and wasting precious energy.
"They wouldst sacrifice innocents to...to destroy us?" His voice shook with his anger, and that strange feeling of loss, deep in his heart.
Mami was mortal. She would have died eventually, while he endured, as one of the Endless. And yet... For the first time, Fou-Lu found himself missing a mortal being. He wanted her back.
But she was gone, and there was no changing that.
