Tyzula!Mommies Fluff for Tyzula Advent Calendar Day Five: Mittens.
"It's snowing!" Inzai shrieks before clamping her hand over her mouth.
She hops up and down excitedly, unable to hold back.
"It does that in the Earth Kingdom," Ty Lee says with a small smile. Her daughter has never seen snow before, and so she is exalted that the brief flurry came while she and Azula are in the Earth Kingdom on business… with daughter in tow.
"I wanna go play in it!" Inzai continues, rubbing her hands together and bolting towards the door. Ty Lee grabs her by the back of her shirt.
"You have to put on shoes, and a jacket, and mittens," Ty Lee lists and Inzai stares at her. And then bursts into tears. "Why does that make you cry? It will take four minutes."
"That's four minutes too long!" Inzai cries. Azula walks into the room while she's at it.
"Inzai, wanna come outside and play in the snow?" she asks before Ty Lee can stop her.
Wickedly, Inzai grins and nods at her other mother before running over to her and tugging Azula to the door before Ty Lee can get involved. And Inzai laughs in Ty Lee's direction on her way out.
Ty Lee crosses her arms and mutters, "I hope you get frostbite."
Less than an hour later, Inzai is crying much harder as Azula tries to gather water for her red extremities.
"I didn't really mean that," Ty Lee repeats, her lips contorted into a sad smile. "I'm sorry you got frostbite, baby." She rubs Inzai's back. "I did when I first became a Kyoshi Warrior."
"Ha," Azula snaps and Ty Lee sighs. "That's what you get."
"That's why I never told you that story," Ty Lee grumbles. "I didn't even know I was supposed to wear those Water Tribe mittens. They were so ugly. I thought staying fashionable was more important than staying warm. I was wrong."
Finally, Azula heats the water with a single palm and then sticks Inzai's hands in it as she cries.
"Stop that. Stop that," Azula mutters to no avail. Inzai keeps crying as Azula keeps the water hot for her daughter's hands and feet. "This is what happens when you walk barefoot in the snow and try to have a snowball fight with your bare hands."
Inzai sniffs in forcefully. "Tell me more stories," she says to Ty Lee.
"Yes, regale us with tales of your failures to acclimate to water peasant culture," Azula says and Inzai nods furiously.
Ty Lee sighs. "If it helps you feel better, Inzai, I'll tell you my other story about ugly clothes…"
