Miel Klaut
Mrs. Klaut stared into her daughter's big brown eyes and tears automatically filled her own pale grey eyes, "oh my sweet how are we going to manage?" "Martha", her husband John said consolingly "we'll manage, Hitler won't stop us".
58 years later Mia Hart watched through the kitchen window her beautiful grand children; she loved all four of them immensely. There was little Dilly who was six months old, Honey who was six, Ebbi who was twelve and Ren who was nineteen. Dilly and Honey were happily playing in the paddling pool getting Ebbi and Ren absolutely soaking wet. Later on that day, at about half past nine Ebbi, Ren and Mia were sitting watching a program about cooking, "Come on Ebbi", her Gran said "It's time for bed, you've got school tomorrow, have you packed your bag?" "Yep" "Good girl". Ebbi kissed her sister and her Gran goodnight, went off to bed, she checked on her sister Honey and her brother Dylan, and went to her bed. Ren came up at eleven and checked on all three of her siblings. She climbed into bed and fell into a peaceful sleep.
"Gran, Gran!" "What is it poppet?" "I've been sick" "Ok, I'm coming up"
Mia went into Ebbi's room, "oh poppet, you have been sick, go and jump in the shower". Mia removed the sheets and cleaned up when Ebbi appeared in fresh pajamas. "Come on then downstairs"
Ebbi followed her Gran downstairs and into the kitchen "Go and get a blanket and a pillow", Ebbi left and returned minutes later, "go and put them on the sofa". Mia came into the living room and directed Ebbi to get into the covers, she gave Ebbi the soup she made, put on their favourite video and made sure Ebbi ate her soup and went to sleep.
The next day Ebbi stayed off school, she had just put Dilly to bed and sat down in the living room, finding there was nothing on T.V she resorted to her Gran, "Gran tell me a story, a true story" "Ok poppet, it's about the holocaust, is that alright?" Ebbi nodded. "I am not your real Grandma, by love yes, but not by blood, you see during the second world war I was born in Germany, my real name was Miel Klaut, and my parents decided to send me to my aunty in England because I could be safe there". "Why did they send you away?" spoke Ebbi looking fearful. "Because my pet, during the Second World War there was of course the Holocaust, where Hitler prosecuted Jews not because we were bad and not because he was bad, because he had overdosed on power. Power can be like a drug my dear; it can make you mad, bad and many other terrible things. Anyway, I was born in nineteen forty four when the war was coming to an end but, my parents didn't know that so they sent me away to England, and I have never heard from them since. She wiped a tear from her eye. "Well you would of thought that would have been the end of it, but it wasn't, I had to be sent by package because they couldn't let onto anybody that I was alive or indeed they were alive because they were in hiding. This happened when I was about six months old, and as expected I was sent on the train, but the worst that could happen occurred, I was intercepted by a nazi collaborator." Ebbi yawned but still looked scared, "my sweet you are ill and I must let you rest, no buts I want you in bed now, go on chop chop! Oh I know you don't want to go to sleep, tell you what you can finish off that video but then I want you straight to sleep, Ok?" Ebbi let out a small noise of recognition "And I'll tell you more of the story later, but you need your sleep." Ebbi's pace quickened and before she knew it, she was off to sleep.
