Someone up there had it in for him, he decided. Walter was having a stressful day, between preparing the mansion for the Queen's visit -that Sir Hellsing had neglected to inform him of- and raiding the mansion's alcohol supply to satisfy his master's insatiable thirst. The bell connected the Arthur Hellsing's study tinkled again. The butler stared at it venomously before throwing down his papers in frustration.
"I swear, if that bastard's calling me up to bring him another bottle of Irish whiskey, I'll have to murder him," Walter grumbled, stomping up the stairs and down a corridor. Stopping at an old mahogany door, he took a deep calming breath –oh, how he longed for a good English cigarette at that precise moment- and knocked.
"That you Walter? Come on it."
Just before he touched the doorknob, he sensed it. Kicking the door wide open, he simultaneously whipped out his wires and set on entrapping the malevolent presence within the room. He ignored the warm blood running down his hands, knowing that he had to finish this battle quickly. Without the protection of his custom-made gloves, the microfilament razor wires were equally as dangerous to him.
Satisfied that his captive wouldn't escape, he inspected it and shuddered. The thing looked like an ordinary, pretty sixteen-year-old girl. The illusion of her humanity was distorted by the delicate fangs pressed gently on her lower lip and piercing read eyes. A vampire. A laugh broke him out of his thoughts.
"Sharper than ever, aren't you lad?" his master chuckled "And Alucard, you've got to admit, the boy isn't to be trifled with. Now Walter, be a dear and let the good fellow go, will you?"
Walter gapped at the deranged man. Let the monster go? Clearly Sir Hellsing had consumed a few too many bottles of whisky. The aforementioned man frowned at Walter's hesitation.
"Do as I say, Walter."
Walter reluctantly, withdrew his weapon but didn't put them away, in case Arthur's judgment proved flawed as it often seemed to be. Sir Hellsing propped his feet on his messy desk and leaned back with satisfaction.
"Now then," he grinned, "Alucard, meet Walter C. Dornez, our resident's Angel of Death. Walter, meet Alucard, the original vampire and the best kept secret in Hellsing history."
Walter stared back at the thing- Alucard, was it- in shock. His master had officially lost his mind, he was sure of it. The vampire raised a delicate eyebrow and smiled at the boy's obvious discomfort.
"Nice to meet you, little Angel." she purred. Walter internally shivered even as he bowed back automatically- his years of etiquette classes taking over. Arthur Hellsing, thoroughly entertained by the awkward moment decided it was the perfect time to drop the bombshell.
"Now then. Before you arrived, I was just telling Alucard about you. You see, you two will be working together from now on. Meet your new partner, Walter."
Walter's blue eyes widened impossibly as he tried to digest the last sentence.
"Partner?"
The word hung in the air as Walter looked at the vampire, then his master. Alucard let an expression of amusement appear on her features while Sir Hellsing roared in mirth.
Later, as Walter walked down the hallway, he inwardly resolved that the liquor stores in the cellar would mysteriously disappear into the sink.
