Tears Of The Past

Shadow was lying at the corner of an empty room and was crying. Shadow speaks to himself while sniffling from crying

"Maria, It's all my fault….I'd let you die….."

Just then, Sonic entered and said

"Hey Shadow, you are missing out-"

Sonic realized Shadow was crying but Shadow just looked away and wiped his tears.

Sonic asked with concern

"Shadow… What's wrong?"

Shadow just looked away. Sonic went up to him and sat next to him.

Sonic grinned and looked out the window, he said

"The stars sure are pretty aren't they?"

Shadow asked

"Why do you even come and bother about me anyway?"

Sonic smiled and replied

"Of course, it's about Maria right?"

Shadow immediately stand up and yelled

"What? How did you know about that? Tell ME!"

Shadow was forming a Chaos Spear in his hand.

Sonic stand up and replied

"Shadow, everyone knows about it! Even Chris told me about it!"

Shadow stopped the Chaos Spear from forming in his hand. He fell to the ground and cried.

Sonic reached out his hand and placed it on Shadow's shoulder. Sonic then said,

"I know how you feel Shadow, it's exactly the same way I'd felt when-

Shadow slapped Sonic's hand of his shoulder and yelled

"WHAT DO YOU KNOW? YOU NEVER HAD TO LOSE SOMEONE IN YOUR LIFE! THAT'S HOW YOU GOT TO BE SO STRONG AND CAREFREE RIGHT?"

Sonic yelled back

"OF COURSE I DO! IT'S EXACTLY THE SAME WAY I LOSE MY UNCLE! DO YOU THINK I AM ALWAYS HAPPY! EVERY YEAR DURING THE DAY OF HIS DEATH, I HAD TRY MY BEST NOT TO CRY!"

Sonic was starting to cry. Shadow stared at him with pity. Shadow then said

"I'm sorry, I didn't know…. Sonic"

Sonic rubbed his tears away trying to be strong. He smiled at Shadow and told him

"Shadow, you will learn that everyone has sad times and happy ones….Like the saddest time of my life is when I lose my uncle when I was still a mere child, fenceless and unable to do anything….But Shadow, everybody in their lives has to move on and let go….."

Shadow said

" How can I let go? Maria's death was my fault! She sacrificed her life, so that she will let me see this world!"

Sonic placed his hand on Shadow's shoulder, he gazed at the stars and replied

"Look at stars Shadow, I'm sure Maria is watching you right here and now …..and what I'm most certain is that she doesn't want to see you like this."

Shadow looked at the stars and realized Sonic was right. Shadow remember her last words

"I'm sure you'll be happy Shadow and promise me you will help those in need…..I only wish I could go with you."

Shadow stood up and crossed his arms. Shadow then replied

"Thanks Sonic, Can't believe I'm saying this but if you hadn't told me about this, I would still be here crying and not realizing Maria's wishes…."

Shadow was blushing but was trying to hide it in the dark. Sonic realized that but didn't want to humiliate him. Sonic gave him a wink and a thumbs up and said

"No problem! Come on Shadow! We are going to miss the party!"

Sonic ran out and Shadow was right behind him. Shadow stopped by the door and gazed at the stars just one last time. Shadow said

"Maria… I will keep my promise!"

He went out the door but a star in the sky was twinkling even brighter than before. It was Maria's star.
