"So, Brook, when's your birthday?"

It was a perfectly innocent question, but it made Brook freeze. "I... I don't remember..." He answered, slight surprise creeping into his voice. "It's been a long time since I last celebrated my birthday so I don't..." He frowned in concentration. "It has been a long time..." Brook finally shrugged. "I suppose it's only to be expected that I don't remember."

Luffy frowned. "That's not right!" He declared. "Everyone should have their birthday! If you don't remember yours, then we'll make one up!"

Brook laughed, "Wouldn't that be fun?" He agreed. "But I don't need a birthday. Every day is special enough to me. A birthday is just one day in a year, anyways. It's not as though it's some great, important date."

"It is, though!" Luffy argued with a scowl. "A birthday is the day where you celebrate that you were born! Where you can't help but smile because you know that you've lived so long, and had so much fun so far! If you hadn't had a birthday, you wouldn't have been born, and you wouldn't be with us right now! So you've gotta have one!"

A bright smile spread across Brook's features. "But I don't remember it." He replied. "If you're going to make one up, then I'll leave choosing the date all to you."

"Of course!" Luffy declared energetically, before he paused and a look of confusion crossed his features. "Um... is there any date that you want?"

Brook shrugged. "Not particularly. I'm alright with any date you choose for me."

Luffy groaned. "Nami, what day do you think that Brook's birthday should be on?" He called to their navigator.

Nami peered at them scrutinizingly, and then let out a slight sigh of exhaustion. "Why are we even discussing this?" She mumbled to herself, before calling out, "How about September 6th? Kuroku sounds kind of like Brook... not really, but kind of."

Luffy's nose scrunched in before he shook his head. "Nah. Sound kind of boring."

Nami's fist connected with the top of Luffy's head. "What's boring?" She demanded angrily.

Luffy ignored her and skipped over to Franky. "Hey, Franky, what do you think would be a good date for Brook's birthday?" He called out.

Franky peered at him. "How about November 1st?" He asked. "The day of the dead."

"I'm not dead!" Brook called out. "Just because I died doesn't mean that I'm dead!"

Luffy scowled. "None of these sound right!" He decided.

"Then what do you think seems right?" Brook asked curiously.

Luffy tilted his head to the side, concentrating, then decided, "April 3rd!"

"Why would you pick an obscure date like that over my idea!?" Nami demanded.

"Because that's the day that Brook joined!" Luffy explained. "So that should be his birthday, because we met him that day so it's a special day!"

"That makes sense." Franky agreed.

So Brook's birthday became April 3rd.
