Acceptance
Lily was leaving for Hogwarts to start a new life and leave her old one behind forever. She knew she would be different after the seven years of magical education Hogwarts offered as opposed to the seven years of normal education she would have otherwise spent with Petunia.
Her parents had accepted her decision to go to Hogwarts. They had not been particularly happy with her going so far away so soon but knew it would be the best for her. They had tears in her eyes but they were proud of her, knowing how difficult it would be for her to leave her family.
Petunia, on the other hand, had not accepted her decision. If anything she had been angered beyond reason and no amount of convincing from anyone could change her mind on the matter. Lily knew Petunia had only come to the station because their parents had forced her to.
She had been incensed when their parents had said that and had not even looked at Lily since. Even now she was standing off to the side, glaring at the ground heatedly. It hurt. She had hoped that this would not change the relationship that they had shared for as long as she could remember.
Petunia had always been there for her. Tuney was her older sister the one she turned to whenever she had a problem. Petunia had been her role-model up until recently. She had never known her sister to be so cruel. She had never noticed that before they had met Severus in that park.
Petunia had not liked Severus. Lily could not understand what was wrong with Sev. Lily almost wished that Petunia's dislike of Sev came from the fear of losing her to Sev and his magical world but that could not possibly be true with the way Petunia had been treating her once she had received the Hogwarts letter through the mail..
Petunia had been pushing her away for months now. That reason could not possibly be true no matter how much Lily wished it to be.
Lily knew Severus was probably on board already waiting for her in one of the compartments. She was not ready to leave her family yet. She would not be with her family for the larger part of the next 10 months. Sev could wait a little longer. She had only just seen him yesterday anyway.
The whistle blew in warning of the imminent departure of the Hogwarts' Express.
Lily looked one last time at her family. Her parents had tears in their eyes that they were trying to hide with smiles as they waved her off to her next adventure. They had said their goodbyes already.
She saw Petunia glaring out at her but she hoped she could also see a little bit of sorrow and hurt beneath that angry mask.
She could try again later when she returned home for Christmas break. That was all she could possibly do as Petunia seemed to dislike the thought of getting mail through owls or receiving letters on parchment.
There was nothing more for it, nothing more she could do about the matter.
There was nothing left but to accept it.
