Chell walked through the field of wheat silently, portal gun in hand. She was glad GLaDOS had let her keep it. It reminded her of Wheatley and Caroline, and how quickly greed could overcome even the purest of hearts. It reminded her of GLaDOS, and how even Chell, the little orphan girl who talked so little people conceived her as mute, could save the world.

Chell pulled open the old yet futuristic door, and looked into the elevator shaft. She looked down for miles and miles, seeing no elevator in sight. With her fall-resisting shoes, Chell would have jumped eagerly into the hole. But alas, her sneakers wouldn't defend her against the force of gravity. It had taken her months to get used to regular shoes after she left Aperture Science, two years ago.

Chell expertly aimed a blue portal at the side of the shaft, a few inches above the floor. She shot an orange portal at the open-hanging door, and stepped into the bottom of the elevator shaft. She looked around the underground facility, and saw a few dark rooms, and many vines. No humans. Good.

Hello the digitalized voice of GLaDOS flooded Chell's ears. She had spent twenty-three of the last twenty-four hours driving to the abandoned underground facility in silence.

"GLaDOS."

Chell. It's been a long time.

"Yeah."

Chell laughed lightly. "If somebody had told me two years ago that I'd be having a semi-friendly conversation with you, no exterior forces involved, I think I'd have opened a portal on their face."

I've been going through your personal files lately. I found your last name.

"That would've been handy a couple years ago."

Sorry. I was a bit too busy trying to murder you.

"Yeah. Thanks a lot, by the way." Chell rolled her eyes and folded her arms.

If I remember correctly, it was mutual.

"Yeah. Sorry."

Sorry.

"A few cities survived the apocalypse. We're banding together. Reforming the world."

Good. That's… good.

"We could use the help of a giant conscious super-computer."

Sorry. The evil villainous in me wants to kill you right now.

"Then kill me. You've had plenty of chances."

But I can't. I guess that's the Caroline in me, still trying to be a decent person.

"Decent?"

I know, fat chance. Don't rub it in.

"You said you had my last name. What was it?"

Johnson.

"Johnson. As in, CAVE Johnson. You've got to be kidding me."

No fabrication of the truth necessary. Cave and Caroline donated their own reproductive material. You are their daughter.

"Great. My father's an insane freak, and my mother's dead. Well, Cave's probably dead as well, but…"

As their daughter, you legally own everything before you.

"Oh, great. I own a worn-down facility for testing humans and a self-aware robot that's tried to kill me twice."

Exactly.

"So, you have to follow my orders, huh?"

Obviously.

"Then help us. Help the human race! Reverse what you've done!"

I cannot.

"My father created you! I order you to use your knowledge for the benefit of mankind!"

I literally cannot. It is against what your father programmed me to do.

Chell yelled and ran about the room, knocking over desks and papers.

If it is any consolation, I cannot hinder human "society" either.

"Well, if you can't do anything-" Chell leaned into GlaDOS's head/eye/camera, and whispered "what is the point of you?"

Chell pressed the button, sending herself and the lift to the surface. She never heard the muffled GLaDOS deleted emanating from the underground labyrinth.
