"I see the infant Dean." Castiel said flatly, looking at the baby Dean held at eye level, a foot from his face. Dean just rolled his eyes.
"I know you can see her, why don't you hold her?" He asked with a bright smile. "Come on, the worst she'll do is nibble." Castiel furrowed his brows at that.
"Why would she do that?" He watched the giggly, reaching girl in front of him. Was it weird to think she looked familiar?
"Because she's a baby." Dean laughed and held the child closer to his friend, who took the gurgling mass hesitantly. Castiel stared at the child now in his arms. Only a day or two before, Sam had told him about Dean's finding and attaining adventure.
It was on the last hunt that Dean decided to find an old hookup, although Castiel didn't know why. Although Dean had found more than just a hookup, but a child as well, 7 months old. The mother assured Dean he needn't worry about it, and Dean was glad to hear it. . . at first. According to Sam, his brother couldn't get the child off of his mind.
And when whatever they had been hunting killed her, the mother that is, she handed the child to Dean to do with what he thought was the best for her.
"She said she saw love for Dessonae in his eyes." Sam recalled her words. "I think I saw it too, and even if I didn't, I definitely see it now."
Castiel knew he saw it, love and pride. Exactly what should be found in a father's eyes. So Dean decided the safest thing was to put her up for adoption. He would never allow a kid to go through this life if he could help it, he knew too well how hard that was. By the time it came to actually giving Dessonae up, he couldn't, even Castiel had seen how quickly he had grown attached to the child.
Castiel looked down at the baby in his arms. She laughed and reached up to touch his hair.
"Aungel!" Dessonae exclaimed. 'Angel." Castiel thought and glanced up to Dean, who smiled proudly.
"I taught her that." He said and the angel couldn't help but smile, he liked seeing his best friend so happy.
