From The Ground Up
This life will go by in the blink of a eye but I wouldn't want to spend it without you by my side. Sarah x Connor and all that comes in between.
Number one:
Today Sarah Reese was to become a mother. Never in her wildest dreams would she have imagined it, she liked kids but she just had never pictured herself having them, she would just have to be led by the expectations and a whole lot of help from Natalie and her friends.
"Sarah, honey... how are you feeling?" Natalie asked as she took a seat next to her tired friend. "Do you want more ice chips?"
Sarah sighed. "No, I'm fine." Natalie smiled taking her hand, she'd been here since late last night as she was admitted. "Thank you."
"Here, let me do that for you." Nat put the pillow further back so she could rest her head. "Where's..."
"He got a page." Sarah shrugged.
"You're joking," Nat huffed. "I'm going to kill him."
"No, it's fine, Dr. Shepherd said it could be a while anyway, I asked April to page him as soon as..." And then she felt it, a familiar tingling and a sharp pain on her side. "Oh!"
"I'm getting him right now..."
"Okay Sarah, now I need you to push, alright? A big push..." Sarah felt her head spinning from exhaustion. She felt Connor's lips on her forehead.
"Baby, you've got this..." He said softly. She squeezed his hand, Connor winced in pain at the pressure but kept silent.
She hated him, oh how he hated him.
"Sarah? Sweetie... let's go, this little one is eager to meet us." Dr. Shepherd smiled. "You're so close honey..."
Sarah threw her head back. "I hate you." She told Connor who smiled.
"I know..." whispered to her. "Here, do you want to punch me? Will that make you feel better?"
"It might..." Another sharp pain.
"One big push Sarah, we're almost there..." She closed her eyes as she felt Connor's lips back on her forehead.
And then she heard it, her baby's first cry. She'd talked to mother's who'd grieved their children or were blessed with them but Sarah had never understood those women until that moment.
"It's a boy..." She heard Natalie say from the back.
And then Sarah just sobbed, she broke into a million pieces as the realization hit her.
"Baby, you did it...I'm so proud you.." She leaned to kiss Connor on the lips as they wrapped the baby in a blanket and handed him to his dad. "Hey buddy, you've been pretty cramped up in there huh?"
"Is he okay?" Sarah asked.
"He's perfect babe." Connor locked eyes with his son for the first time. "Come here bud, you see that beautiful girl there? That's your mommy." He placed the baby against her chest as the baby cooed.
"Hi..." Sarah smiled at the baby on her chest, he was warm and so small. "Look at him."
"I know..." He leaned to kiss her forehead. "I love you Sarah..."
"I love you both so much..." Sarah smiled glancing down at her son. "Who's that buddy? That's your daddy." The baby turned his head to look at Connor. Sarah's heart swelled as hereached for him.
"He looks like Rhodes..." Maggie said. "Big blue eyes and a chunk of black hair..."
"Oh my god, that kid is going to drive them all crazy..." April joked.
"Well... how's Sarah? She must be exhausted." Ethan added in.
"Yeah, but happy." Maggie said. "And Rhodes holding a baby? He's like Jack Pearson adorable, you know?"
"Well, he's well on the road to becoming one..." April said. Ethan looked at them in confusion.
The girls laughed.
"Alright guys, I'm going to have to take the little one here away, we have to get ready for the next baby..." Dr. Shepherd smiled. "Do you guys have a name for him yet?"
"Luke." Connor said turning to look at Sarah, who nodded.
"Luke Rhodes it is." Dr. Shepherd said taking the baby from Sarah, he fuzzed a bit in her arms. "It's okay Luke, trust me you're going to like being an only child for a little while."
"I'll be with him the whole time guys, I promise." Natalie told them.
Sarah watched as they wheeled Luke out of the room and her heart dropped a little. "You okay?"
"Yeah, I just... I didn't think you could love someone so much in just 5 minutes..."
"I know..." Connor smiled. "You were amazing by the way..." He took a seat next to her.
"Well, thank you... I had my doubts if I'm being honest." She smiled weakly.
"I didn't." He threw in cheekily kissing her hand.
"You're just saying that because you knocked me up before we could walk down the aisle." Sarah joked. Connor turned serious. "I'm kidding..."
"You will have a wedding Sarah, a great one..." He said. "That's a promise, alright?"
"I know." She leaned to kiss him. "I believe you..."
Ouch. Another sharp pain.
"I guess we're ready for number two?" Eilen Shepherd smiled. "Daddy, get ready.." Connor beamed.
"Yeah Daddy..." Sarah smiled as Connor leaned to kiss her. "Let's do this."
