Part i

Kelly woke up to the drone of his alarm and reaching out an arm he slapped the clock hard enough to shut it off on the first try. "It's morning already?" He let out a groan and then settled back into the silence of the moment. He really… really didn't want to get up, still, if he wanted to get a shower before work, he'd better get his ass out of bed.

A shower seemed like the perfect thing right at that moment and there were plenty of reasons to grab the shower at home instead of the station house. Especially because he wanted to share it with someone.

"Hey," he grumbled, "lazybones… didn't you hear the alarm?"

When silence answered him he felt a furrow crease the skin between his brows.

"Stella?" He reached out toward her side of the bed and found the sheets cold to the touch. "Stell?" He turned his head and saw the early morning sunlight spill over the empty bed beside him.

He managed to get his hands under him and pushed up from the mattress, his ears trained on the part of the apartment outside his bedroom. Nothing.

Sitting up on the bed he squeezed his eyes closed and tried to remember when she'd gotten out of bed. He certainly remembered when she'd gotten in it.

Paperwork had never been something he enjoyed, but he'd stuck around Molly's to help her with the inventory not because he was feeling particularly helpful. He'd stuck around because he couldn't seem to keep his hands, or his mouth for that matter, off of Stella.

Kisses on her bare shoulders when she finished a section, a subtle scrape of his teeth along the column of her throat when she'd had to recount a shelf because he had his hands on her hips, his fingertips trailing over her taut belly.

By the time they finished and had put everything to rights from the beginning of his visit, they had offered a wave to Herrmann as Kelly pulled his car onto the street, leaving Stella's car in the parking lot for the night.

They'd barely managed to make it Inside the apartment before he had her up against the door, retracing his steps from that morning, dropping her clothes into a pile by the door rather than a path.

And by the time he had her eyes glazed over with hunger, she'd had her hands all over every inch of him.

Some how they'd managed to get to his room falling onto the king-sized mattress without a care for who was on top and who was on the bottom because they both knew they'd take turns at some point.

And hours later when they'd barely managed to remember to eat, they'd fallen asleep wrapped around each other in softly woven knot of arms and legs.

But when has she left him?

When had she climbed out of bed and walked away?

He didn't know the answer and hated to ask the questions.

It struck him as odd as he got out of bed and paced his way to the bedroom door. Before, when they'd slept together, she'd always been the last one out of bed.

She'd been the one to remain tangled in the sheets, her hair spread out over her pillow and his, her eyes following him around the room.

Not today.

Not this time.

Reaching for his dresser drawer he pulled out a pair of boxer briefs and pulled them in before stepping out into the apartment.

"Stella?"

More silence. Damn.

A quick look around the room yielded a pile of clothes on the table and on top of that a paper.

Hey-

Didn't want to wake you. Caught a ride to pick up my car at Molly's. See you at 51!

S

A look at the clock told him he had plenty of time to shower and get to work as long as he stopped worrying and got a move on. Maybe enough time to catch Stella's before shift.

When he got to 51 the ambulance was missing and so was Stella. Mouch caught his eye as he came in through the door to the common area.

"Hey, Severide, you okay?"

"Yeah, yeah," he scanned the room around him. "Stella come through here?"

"Yeah," Mouch gestured back out to tbt equipment floor, "came in and went out with Gabby. Brett called in for a personal day."

Kelly blew out a breath, shaking his head. "So who's on truck today?"

Mouch thought about it for a moment. "Don't really recall, but I thought I saw Casey take him to show him around before we get started."

Changing his mind about his destination. Kelly went straight to his office. Sooner or later she'd walk past his office and he's grab her there.

It was a good guess.

But he was wrong.
