This story is inspired by real life. The events in this story happened to my brother and are still going on. I'll explain more at the end. This takes place shortly after Kai and Kya and it might be a little sad.
"Kya what are you doing?" Lil asked as she watched her friend lying on the floor face to face with one of their large dogs.
"I'm trying to see if Sadie will do something if I lay here long enough." Kya answered.
"Kya what did I tell you about getting in the dogs face?" Grace asked coming into the living room and finding her three year old daughter on the floor.
"Not to." Kya sighed standing up."She won't play with us or anything anymore."
"She might be sick. We're taking her to the vet. Go play with Hana outside." Grace told her.
Kya grabbed Lil's hand and the two went outside to play. They noticed Phil and Kai up in the treehouse. They ran to join them but didn't get very far before they knocked down.
"Hana get off." Kya giggled as the big dog licked her face.
"She did that to us too." Kai yelled from the treehouse as Hana began to lick Lil's face.
"Why is she out here and not inside like most days when we come here?" Lil asked once the dog had stopped licking her.
"She has fleas." Kya answered."My mommy has to get this special spray from her work."
By this point Kai and Phil had slid down the slide and joined the girls in the grass.
"We can help with the fleas." Phil said picking some off the dog, who was laying in the grass and eating them.
"Philip." Lil cried."I told you. We don't do that no more."
"Ok. Fine. We can still help get them off until Kai and Kya's mommy gets the special spray." Phil continued to pick fleas. The rest of the kids soon joined in, picking and killing the little bugs as soon as they found them.
"Are you guys ready for lunch?" Auntie asked carrying a tray with sandwiches and cups of lemonaide.
The kids ate in the grass, every once in awhile giving some bread crust to Hana, sat near by staring at them as they ate.
"Are we going swimming auntie?" Kai asked when he saw his aunt bring out the little blue kiddy pool.
"No. We're going to give Hana a bath." Auntie answered as Grace came outside with a white spray bottle.
The kids watched as the two woman filled the pool with water and attempted to get Hana into it.
Auntie grabbed the dog by the collar and tired to drag her in, but she wouldn't budge and auntie ended up falling into the pool.
"I think they need our help." Kai said watching his mom help his aunt out of the pool.
"How can we help. We never gave Hana a bath before." Kya said. She then looked down at her hands and noticed they were covered in peanut butter.
"Guys I got a idea." Kya told them."Hana loves people food and we got lots of it on us so all we got to do is."
After Kya had explained her plan the kids put it into action. Lil went first. She stood near the pool and let Hana lick all the peanut butter off her hands and face. Phil went next, stepping in the pool. Just as Kya predicted Hana followed him. The adults noticed what the kids were doing and quickly got to work washing the dog and getting rid of the fleas.
"Next time we have to do this we have to remember to feed the kids lunch first." Auntie commented as she continued to scrub while Kya stood just outside of the pool distracting Hana.
Once they were all done they went inside to get cleaned up and relax.
"Where is Sadie?" Kai asked sitting on the couch next to his mom.
"I took her to the vet to get checked out." Grace answered.
"Why can't you just tell us what's wrong with her. You're a animal doctor." Kai wondered.
"I can't just look at an animal and know what's wrong. You have to do tests and a lot of other stuff at the hospital." Grace explained.
The next day Sadie was brought home. She had cancer and there was nothing they could do to save her. She was made comfortable on a pile of blankets in one of the bedrooms. Kai and Kya and the rest of the kids were told to leave her alone for awhile.
"How come we can't see her?" Kya asked her mom. She didn't understand why everyone looked so sad. Sadie was just sick. They could make her better with the medicine.
"She's sick and needs rest." Grace tried to explain. This answer seemed to satisfy Kya's curiousosity.
"What are you doing?" Kai asked as he watched his siter pour a can of chicken noodle soup and a packet of jello into Sadie's food bowl.
"You eat this stuff when you're sick so maybe if Sadie eats it she'll feel better." Kya explained carrying the bowl to her aunt and uncle's bedroom where the sick dog was resting.
"Open the door for me." Kya instructed her brother. Kai opened the door as quietly as he could and Kya crept inside placing the bowl in front of Sadie.
"Come on Sadie." Kya encouraged the dog lifting her head to the bowl."You gotta eat so you can get better."
The dog just looked at the food uninterested and dropped her head in Kya's lap.
"Come on Kya, She's not hungry." Kai pleaded from the doorway. He kept expecting to see his aunt or uncle any second.
Kya tried one last time to get Sadie to eat when all of the sudden Sadie bit Kya in the face. Kai was shocked and scared. He knew these dogs almost all of his life and he couldn't remember a time where either one of them even tried to bite him or his brother and sisters. He ran from the room and bumped into his uncle, who must've heard Kya scream.
"What happened?" Ernesto asked Kai.
Kai had tears streaming down his face. He was scared. In a quiet voice he uttered his sister's name and Ernesto ran into the room. Kai followed and watched fromt the doorway. What he saw made him feel a little better. Kya was still on the floor where he had last seen her, but instead of Sadie still biting her face as he expected to see she was licking Kya's where she had bit it.
Ernesto knelt next to Kya, who was still crying and gently lifted her up. Kai quickly followed him out of the room asking along the way.
"Is Kya going to be ok?"
"We have to take her to the hospital. She should be ok." Ernesto assured him. After filling his wife in on what happened Ernesto took Kya to the hospital, calling Grace on the way. Once Grace arrived to be with Kya Ernesto left to take care of Sadie. He decided it was to dangerous and not fair to her to keep her alive, so he had put down at the vet.
Kya was pumped full of antibiotics and monitored over night. The next day she came home with a patch over her right eye where Sadie had bit her. They found out the eye had been infected andnow Kya had to have drops in her eye every hour.
"You look like a pirate." Kai commented when Kya arrived home the next day. She just crossed her arms and leaned into the couch cushions.
On the way home Kya had asked about Sadie. Grace had to tell her the sad news that she went to doggie heaven. Kya felt guilty. If only she had listened and stayed out of the room.
"It's not your fault." Kai said sensing his sister's feelings."Tito said she's not hurting anymore so in a way you helped her."
This made Kya feel a little better. Kai joined his siter on the couch to watch some cartoons. For once neither of them argued over what to watch.
The next day Kai was getting ready to go to pre school.
"Why can't I go to school too?" Kya asked in a whiny voice.
"Because somebody could poke you in the eye." Grace answered. Kya began to pout."Besides now you can annoy I mean watch Frozen with Auntie all day."
"Thanks." Auntie said sarcasticly handing Grace a portable coffee mug.
"Thanks." Grace responded."With these hourly eye drops I'm going to need about five of these to stay awake today."
"Where's Kya?" Lil asked once Kai had arrived at pre school.
" At home probably watching Frozen. She got bit in the face so she can't come to school." Kai explained.
"I hope she comes back soon." Kimi said.
Kya's infection lasted for weeks. They tried everything. The doctors thought she might have to have surgery.
"I don't want anymore drops." Kya whined as Grace woke her up for the fifth time that night.
"I know, but you have to get better." Grace said applying the drop.
A month later Kya's infection had cleared up and she was cleared to go back to school.
"I'm never getting in a dog's face again. From now on I just let Hana come to me." Kya proclaimed.
"Good. Now we can play again." Lil cheered as the two ran around the playground.
A/N My brother got scratched in the eye by a cat. He leaned on it and hurt it. He had an infection from November to just recently. He has to have muscle surgery this summer. That's the latest update I have so I hope you liked this story.
