"Let's introduce our newest member of the glee club, Jake Puckerman!" Mr Schue exclaimed.

One Brittany S. Pierce didn't think much of a new member. Sure, it was great because of the losses of the members who left, but she'd prefer to see the graduates walk back in and be a part of New Directions again. Especially Santana. Brittany was taking her absence hard. Then again, how could she not? This is Santana we're talking about. The Santana Lopez. A third of the Unholy Trinity, not to mention Brittany's best friend.

She wasn't interested in Jake, as the rest of the girls were. He is a Puckerman. Brittany wasn't for getting knocked up in her second senior year. Hopefully her last senior year. Don't get Brittany wrong, she loved her time at McKinley, she just wanted to experience the world outside of it. She also wanted to embrace the single world. Even though she'd been single since way back when. Jake Puckerman wasn't bad looking. Tan skin, chocolate brown orbs you could lose yourself in… He was a dream. Not that Brittany would admit that. She hasn't even admitted Santana yet. Not that they were official, but people suspected it after Santana came out. Brittany's not sure if Santana's dating anybody. The last she knew is Santana residing in Kentucky, attending their cheerleading college.

It all started when Mr Schue came up with the worst assignment ever. That's how Brittany felt then. Then.

"Duets!" Mr Schue announces after writing the five letter word on the board.

"Again?" Tina asks, rolling her eyes. "The last time did this assignment I'm pretty sure Rachel and Finn threw the competition for reasons yet to be explained."

"It'll be good, I promise," Mr Schue says, in hopes they'd like it afterwards. Hopefully, for all theirs sakes, they like what's coming next.

Just as Mr Schue predicted, they all sat next to who they wanted and started talking. "No, you come up here and pick from the box."

There were some unexpected pairings. Unique and Artie. Sugar and Joe. Kitty and Blaine. Until…

Jake stepped up and read out who he picked, "Brittany."

Brittany blew out a big breath of air and accepted it. She, out of all people, managed to get paired with none other than the school's resident bad boy, Jake Puckerman. How the hell did that work out? Or happen?

"Stop," Brittany manages to breathe out, "we can't do this."

"Why not?" Jake asks, smirking. "I am of age. I'm a sophomore. Wait, do I remind you of Noah?"

Brittany shakes her head. "It's not that. I'm just not looking for this."

"You mean dating?"

"Precisely."

"Who said anything about dating?"

That was enough for Brittany. To her inner dismay, she succumbed to the trap of Jake Puckerman.

It continued. For weeks. Months. Brittany told herself she needed to stop. She didn't want to date. She didn't want it at all. Yet she found herself falling for him. It was the same for Jake. He was thinking about deflowering Marley Rose but she was too innocent for him. He looked at Brittany and thought why not? From the tales he'd heard, she definitely was not in need of deflowering. Somehow he felt himself falling in love with her. Love was not an option for either of them. Jake, because he feared of becoming like his father and no woman deserved to get wrecked on that road. Brittany, because she was confused about her romantic feelings after Santana and didn't want to attempt a relationship before she figured out her feelings.

Yet, the both of them still carried on. Either hoping their feelings will get dismissed, or in hopes their feelings would get stronger.

Maybe one day things will change, they hope to themselves. One day…
